Chapter 3 - Inside the Glass Palace

The Atlantic Legacy Gala was a blinding spectacle of wealth, power, and flashing camera strobes. Inside the grand oceanfront museum, a massive glass atrium overlooked the dark, churning waves of the Atlantic Ocean, reflecting hundreds of crystal chandeliers hung from the vaulted ceilings. Tuxedo-clad billionaires, diamond-draped socialites, and local politicians sipped vintage champagne, laughing loudly as a string quartet played Vivaldi in the background.

Grant Holloway stood near the VIP stage, holding court with a group of senior bank directors and regional developers. He laughed heartily, raising his glass as Delaney Cross stood proudly by his side, her hand resting intimately on his lower back.

"To the future of Miami real estate," one of the bank VPs toasted, clinking his flute against Grant's. "And to Holloway Meridian’s upcoming expansion into the Brickell waterfront district. With Bellamy Holdings backing your equity notes, Grant, you're practically untouchable."

Grant puffed out his chest, adjusting the lapels of his custom tuxedo. "Thank you, Arthur. It takes vision, relentless execution, and knowing how to navigate the market better than anyone else in this room. Some people—ah, certain domestic distractions—thought I couldn't pull off this merger. But true business leaders know how to cut away the dead weight."

Delaney beamed, clearly thrilled by the public display of dominance. "You've always been a genius, Grant. Your wife could never understand the kind of pressure you operate under."

Nearby, Mavis and Brielle Holloway soaked in the adulation, accepting compliments from passing socialites about how brilliant Grant was, and how lucky the family was to have such a visionary leader at the helm.

At precisely 9:45 PM, the master of ceremonies tapped his microphone, signaling the crowd to quiet down.

"Ladies and gentlemen," the MC announced into the sound system, his voice echoing across the glass atrium. "We are moments away from the historic signing of the Bellamy Holdings credit consolidation and equity expansion agreement—a multi-million-dollar milestone that solidifies Holloway Meridian Group as the premier developer in the Southeast. Please welcome to the stage, the visionary CEO of Holloway Meridian, Mr. Grant Holloway!"

Polite, thunderous applause erupted across the ballroom. Flashbulbs strobed continuously as Grant walked up the carpeted steps toward the mahogany podium, wearing a smile of absolute, unassailable triumph. He looked out over the sea of wealthy elites, basking in the spotlight he had stolen, funded, and justified through relentless deception.

He reached the podium, where a bank executive stood waiting with a leather-bound folder containing the final binding execution contracts.

"Thank you, everyone," Grant spoke into the mic, his voice smooth and confident. "Tonight represents years of sacrifice, late nights, and uncompromising ambition. People often ask me what the secret to my success is. I tell them it’s simple: you have to eliminate mediocrity, surround yourself with brilliance, and never let anyone hold you back from your true potential."

In the back of the ballroom, near the towering glass doors overlooking the ocean, the security guards suddenly parted.

Nobody noticed the doors opening. Nobody noticed the tall, slender figure stepping out of the shadows.

I wore a floor-length, backless emerald-green velvet gown custom-designed in Milan—a dress that cost more than Grant’s entire first-quarter marketing budget. A diamond choker rested against my collarbone, catching the gallery lights. But it wasn't the dress that made heads turn; it was the chilling, absolute silence that radiated from my footsteps as I walked down the center aisle.

Grant stopped mid-sentence. His smile froze.

His eyes locked onto mine across the crowded ballroom, widening in sheer, unadulterated terror.
