Chapter 4 - The Press ConferenceThe floodlights outside the Manhattan Supreme Courthouse were blinding.

By Friday afternoon, word had leaked that Hayes Vision had entered emergency receivership, and the financial press had descended upon the courthouse steps like a swarm of locusts. Microphones were stacked three deep on the podium. Camera shutters clicked in a continuous, deafening roar.

When the heavy glass doors of the courthouse opened, the crowd surged forward.

Liam Hayes did not walk out.

Instead, stepping into the blinding light was Olivia Carter—flanked by two high-profile civil rights and corporate litigation attorneys, and escorted securely by Julian Vance, who stood just half a step behind her like an unbreakable wall of protection.

Olivia wore a tailored ivory cashmere coat that gracefully draped over her pregnancy, her dark hair styled with elegant simplicity, her expression calm, collected, and utterly radiant. She didn't look like a woman destroyed by scandal; she looked like a queen reclaiming her throne.

Microphones shoved forward. Reporters shouted over one another.

"Mrs. Carter! Is it true that Hayes Vision has been seized by Vantage Capital?"

"Did you orchestrate the corporate takeover as retaliation against your ex-husband?"

"What is your relationship with billionaire financier Julian Vance?"

Olivia raised one slender hand, and the sheer force of her presence instantly quieted the chaotic mob of reporters. The camera flashes exploded like summer lightning.

"Good afternoon," Olivia began, her voice steady, clear, and carrying the resonant authority of a woman who no longer needed anyone else to speak for her. "Effective as of twelve noon today, Vantage Capital Holdings has assumed full operational control of Hayes Vision. The intellectual property rights, core algorithms, and foundational assets of the company have officially been restored to their rightful origin."

A collective gasp rippled through the press corps.

"For five years," Olivia continued, her eyes scanning the sea of camera lenses, "I worked behind the scenes to build a company based on innovation, integrity, and trust. When my marriage ended, I was asked to sign away my labor, my contributions, and my dignity under the illusion that I was replaceable."

She paused, resting one hand gently over her growing stomach.

"I am here today not to seek vengeance, but to establish a precedent. No woman—no creator, no partner, no founder—should ever have their labor erased by someone who mistook their loyalty for weakness. The legal filings submitted this morning will ensure that a substantial portion of the company’s recovered assets are redirected into a newly established trust fund dedicated to supporting female entrepreneurs and mothers rebuilding their lives after corporate exploitation."

A reporter from Bloomberg shouted from the front row: "What about your ex-husband, Mr. Hayes? Where is he?"

Olivia offered a faint, elegant smile.

"Mr. Hayes is currently discovering the difference between building an empire on your own and standing on someone else's shoulders," Olivia replied smoothly. "As for my personal life, I am looking forward to welcoming my children this autumn, surrounded by people who value truth, loyalty, and genuine partnership."

She turned away from the microphones before anyone else could ask another question.

Julian stepped forward, shielding her from the crushing press corps, his hand resting securely against the small of her back as he guided her toward a waiting silver Mercedes-Benz.

As the car door closed, shutting out the noise of the flashbulbs and the shouting reporters, Olivia leaned back against the leather seat and let out a long, shuddering breath of pure liberation.

Julian slid in beside her, pulling her close, his arm wrapping around her shoulders.

"You were magnificent," Julian whispered, pressing a soft kiss against her temple.

Olivia looked up at him, a radiant smile breaking across her face. "We did it."

"No, Olivia," Julian corrected gently, his eyes filled with profound respect and unwavering devotion. "You did it. I just cleared the path."
