Chapter 2 - The Archive of DeceptionThe chaos that erupted in the ballroom after Noah's revelation wasn't the dramatic cinematic scene of overturned tables and flying plates; it was the much more terrifying sound of powerful people scrambling to protect their own interests.

Within minutes, the country club manager was hovering near the exit, whispering frantically into a radio, while several of Julian’s corporate partners from the firm stood up, whispering among themselves and checking their phones. The fairytale wedding was officially dead, replaced by the ugly, visceral reality of a corporate predator caught in his own trap.
Julian tried to recover, grabbing the edges of the podium with white-knuckled grip. "This is a malicious stunt!" he stammered, his voice cracking as he glared down at me. "She put him up to this! My ex-wife orchestrated a smear campaign to ruin our wedding day because she couldn't stand seeing me move on!"
"Mom didn't even know it was in the storage locker until yesterday, Dad," Noah said calmly, stepping down from the stage and walking back to my side. He slipped his small, cool hand into mine. "You shouldn't have missed three months of child support payments to pay for a locker you didn't check, though. It went up for auction on public-storage-dot-com. Anyone could have bought it for forty dollars. I just happened to use my birthday money."
A sharp, collective gasp rippled through the crowd. Several junior employees who had suffered under Julian’s tyrannical management style suddenly looked a lot less sympathetic.
Before Julian could scramble off the stage to silence us, a tall, silver-haired man rose from the VIP table near the front. Arthur Sterling—senior managing partner of Sterling Capital and one of the primary investors underwriting Julian’s current real estate venture—stepped into the aisle.
"Mr. Cole," Arthur said, his voice cold, measured, and carrying the authority of a man who controlled billions of dollars. "Is that the audit file from the Apex Corporation collapse in 2014?"
Julian’s face went from pale to a sickly shade of gray. "Mr. Sterling... Arthur... please. It's an old file. It was investigated, it was cleared—"
"It was never cleared," Arthur interrupted, walking slowly toward the stage. "The lead investigator mysteriously vanished before filing his final report, and the company went under, leaving hundreds of investors high and dry while a junior analyst—namely you, Mr. Cole—suddenly found the capital to launch your own firm six months later." Arthur looked down at the open brown box on the floor. "I believe I would like to examine those contents very carefully."
Victoria ripped the diamond veil from her hair, throwing it onto the floor with a sharp sob. "You lied to me," she hissed at Julian, her face contorted with fury. "You told me your startup capital came from family inheritance! You told me you were a self-made man!"

"Victoria, wait, let me explain—" Julian lunged toward her, but she slapped his hand away, turned on her heel, and marched straight out of the ballroom, followed by her weeping mother and two bridesmaids.
The grand wedding reception had transformed into a public execution. And the executioner was a ten-year-old boy in a navy blazer who just wanted to see if his father would act like a real dad.
