Chapter 2 - The Midnight AuditInside the penthouse suite on the top floor of the Grand Azure, the atmosphere was thick with the scent of expensive French champagne and victory.

Chloe sprawled across the oversized white leather sofa, wrapped in my cashmere coat, lazily tossing a diamond-encrusted room key from hand to hand. The penthouse was the crown jewel of the resort—a three-thousand-square-foot oasis of floor-to-ceiling glass windows, private infinity pools, and imported Persian rugs. Every single piece of furniture, every color palette, every architectural layout had been chosen by me during the grueling months of construction.
Julian stood by the bar, pouring himself a finger of twenty-five-year-old single malt scotch. He stared out at the panoramic view of the city skyline, a smug, triumphant smirk plastered across his face.
"Can you believe her, Julian?" Chloe pouted, taking a sip from her champagne flute. "Showing up here looking like a drowned rat, demanding to see you. For a second, I thought she was actually going to make a scene."
Julian chuckled, swirling the amber liquid in his glass. "She’s powerless, Chloe. Elena was always a delicate creature. Without my name, without my financial backing, she has nothing. She’s a ghost in this world. I gave her nine years of luxury, and she thought she could play the dutiful wife forever. But a man in my position needs a woman who matches his status, not a charity case."
"And the divorce?" Chloe asked, narrowing her eyes hungrily. "When do we announce it? I want my name on the next property launch in Monaco."
"Tomorrow morning," Julian said smoothly, turning around and walking toward her. He leaned down, planting a kiss on her cheek. "Once the board meeting concludes, I'll file the papers. We'll strip her of whatever joint accounts are left, throw a small settlement her way—just enough to keep her quiet—and legally erase her from the history of this company. Sterling Enterprises is entirely mine now."
At that exact moment, down in the basement server room of the resort, the red warning lights began to blink.
The master control panels—systems that governed every electronic lock, every automated billing gateway, and every administrative override protocol—suddenly flickered. The digital screens flashed a series of crimson error codes: CRITICAL OVERRIDE: ENTITY TRANSFER AUTHORIZED.
Down in the security hub, the head night-shift manager rubbed his eyes, staring at his monitor in absolute horror as thousands of files began reorganizing themselves automatically. The ownership metadata, stamped with Julian's corporate name for the past five years, vanished in a cascade of scrolling green text, replaced by a single, untouchable holding corporation: Aethelgard Global Holdings LLC.
The manager grabbed his desk phone, frantically dialing Julian’s private penthouse extension. It rang three times before Julian picked it up, annoyance dripping from his voice.
"This better be good," Julian snapped, holding his scotch glass.
"Mr. Sterling," the manager stammered, his voice shaking. "We... we have a massive system anomaly. The mainframe... it’s locking us out. All administrative privileges have just been revoked by a Level-1 sovereign trust."
Julian frowned, setting his glass down on the marble counter. "What are you talking about? Override it. I am the CEO of this corporation."
"Sir, you don't understand," the manager cried out over the rising panic in the background of the control room. "The master keycodes aren't recognizing your credentials anymore. In fact... the system is showing that the entire property deed, the land lease, and the operational licenses have been transferred to an external primary beneficiary."
"Whose name?!" Julian shouted, a sudden knot of dread tightening in his stomach.

The line crackled with static, and the manager whispered a single name that made the blood run cold in Julian's veins.
"Elena."
