Chapter 7 - A New HorizonSix months later.

The shores of Lake Michigan were no longer blanketed in snow, but alive with the vibrant, blooming colors of a gorgeous Chicago summer.

The grand gardens of the Whitmore Heights estate were adorned with delicate white roses, cascading fairy lights, and an elegant white canopy set up on the manicured lawn overlooking the water.

It was a celebration—not of a corporate merger or a legal victory, but of a brand-new beginning.

I stood in front of the full-length mirror in the bridal suite, smoothing down the folds of my flowing, ivory silk gown. My reflection looked like a completely different person from the exhausted, heartbroken single mother who had boarded a plane to Chicago a lifetime ago.

The door clicked open, and Evelyn stepped in, carrying a small, squirming, laughing toddler wearing a matching white miniature dress and a tiny flower crown in her hair.

“Look who’s ready to walk down the aisle!” Evelyn beamed, handing little Annie over to me.

Annie clapped her hands together, babbling happily as she tugged playfully at my veil.

A gentle knock echoed from the open doorway, and my father’s old friend—and now our family attorney—smiled as he stepped inside. “Time, Emily. The groom is waiting.”

My heart did a joyful flip in my chest.

Taking a deep, grounding breath, I picked up my bouquet of white roses, held Annie securely on my hip, and walked out toward the garden terrace.

As the string quartet began to play a soft, beautiful melody, the guests seated on the white chairs turned to look at us. At the end of the flower-strewn aisle stood Marcus.

He wore a tailored black tuxedo, but it was his expression that completely took my breath away. His eyes shimmered with overwhelming emotion, and a radiant, undeniable smile lit up his face as he watched me walk toward him.

When I reached the altar, Marcus gently took Annie from my arms, kissing her chubby cheek before handing her over to Chloe—my loyal sister who had flown in from Ohio to be our maid of honor.

Then, Marcus took both of my hands in his, his grip warm, strong, and entirely unbreakable.

“You look breathtaking,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

“You clean up pretty well yourself, billionaire,” I whispered back with a teasing smile.

The minister smiled warmly, beginning the ceremony that would legally and spiritually bind our lives together forever. But as we exchanged our vows under the golden summer sun, I realized that the true vow had already been made months ago—on a crowded airplane, when a tired mother and a lonely billionaire crossed paths and decided to weather the storm together.

When the minister finally pronounced us husband and wife, Marcus pulled me into his arms and kissed me with all the passion, devotion, and fierce love in the world.

Applause and cheers erupted from our family and closest friends, while little Annie clapped her hands and giggled in delight.

As Marcus lifted me effortlessly into his arms and carried me down the aisle toward our bright, beautiful future, I knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, I would never have to face them alone again. The shadows were gone. The storm had passed. And our happily ever after had finally begun.
