Chapter 5 - The Queen’s LedgerThe restructuring of the Falcone syndicate required more than just eliminating traitors; it required rebuilding the entire corporate architecture from the ground up.

Three weeks after Vincent’s execution, Dominic summoned me into his private ground-floor study—the inner sanctum where he conducted the syndicate’s highest-level business. The mahogany desk was covered in architectural blueprints, maritime shipping logs, and financial prospectuses.

When I pushed open the double doors, Dominic was standing by the window, reviewing a ledger.

"You wanted to see me?" I asked, stepping into the room wearing a tailored emerald-green silk blouse and black trousers.

Dominic looked up, a spark of professional admiration lighting up his dark eyes. He gestured to the empty leather chair sitting directly beside his own behind the massive mahogany desk.

"Sit," he commanded gently.

I walked over and sat down, looking at the documents spread across the wood. "What is all this?"

"The Council of the Five Families met in Atlanta yesterday," Dominic explained, leaning against the edge of the desk. "They reviewed the audits you pulled from Vincent’s terminal. They realized that our maritime logistics division is vulnerable to modern digital and financial manipulation. We need someone who understands corporate compliance, forensic accounting, and operational auditing."

I raised an eyebrow, a knowing smile touching my lips. "And you have someone in mind?"

Dominic slid a pristine leather-bound ledger across the desk toward me. Embossed in gold lettering across the front cover were the words: CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER — FALCONE MARITIME & LOGISTICS.

"As of today, you are officially taking over the entire commercial wing of the syndicate," Dominic stated, his voice ringing with absolute authority and pride. "You will manage the legal fronts, the port contracts, and the internal audits. You will sit beside me at every council meeting with full voting rights."

I stared at the leather ledger, running my fingers over the gold lettering. This wasn't just a title; it was an absolute surrender of power. The mafia boss who had once treated me like a fragile glass doll was now handing me the keys to his entire empire.

"Are you sure your capos are ready to take orders from a woman?" I asked, testing him.

"Let one of them try to question your authority," Dominic replied, his eyes narrowing into cold, lethal slits. "They’ll answer to me. And if I’m busy, they’ll answer to you."

I laughed—a bright, genuine sound that chased the last remaining shadows from the dark study. I picked up a fountain pen from the crystal desk set and signed my name on the official appointment line with steady, flawless strokes.
