Chapter 2 - The Awakening of the Titan

The silence that followed my words was so absolute that you could hear the grandfather clock ticking in the distant hallway.
Adrian stared down at me, his brow furrowing as the initial shock wore off and his trademark corporate arrogance rushed back to fill the void. He took a menacing step forward, kicking the discarded riding crop aside with his polished leather shoe.
“Who are you talking to, Elena?” Adrian scoffed, though a faint tremor in his voice betrayed his sudden unease. “Your broke old father in his retirement cottage? What is he going to do? Write a strongly worded letter to my accountant? File a complaint with the senior citizens’ league?”
Vanessa let out a nervous, high-pitched laugh, clutching the edge of her silk robe. “She’s bluffing, Adrian. Look at her—she’s bleeding on the floor, clinging to whatever pathetic little fantasy she has left. Make her hang up the phone right now. It’s giving me a headache.”
I didn't answer them. I kept the phone pressed firmly against my ear.
On the other end of the line, thousands of miles away in a secure, high-security penthouse overlooking the skyline of Geneva, Switzerland, my father had stopped speaking. When Michael Carter gave an order, the entire international financial market listened; when his daughter was physically assaulted in her own home, empires crumbled.
“It is done, my sweet girl,” my father’s deep, calm, and terrifyingly cold voice echoed softly through the encrypted channel. “The accounts are frozen. The board has been notified. The hounds are already at the gate. Stay where you are, Elena. Daddy is coming home.”
The line went dead with a soft click.
I lowered the phone slowly, letting it rest in my palm. I looked up at Adrian, whose expression had curdled into an ugly, defensive snarl.
“You think you’re clever, don’t you?” Adrian snapped, lunging forward and grabbing me roughly by my torn collar, hauling me up from the marble floor despite the agony screaming across my back. “Calling your pathetic old man while you bleed out on my floor! You’re nothing, Elena! Without me, you’re a stray dog freezing in the winter!”
“Adrian, stop wasting time with her,” Vanessa urged, walking over and wrapping her arms around his waist, pouting. “Just lock her in the wine cellar until Monday morning. We have a 9:00 AM investor brunch to attend at the Four Seasons, and I need you to sign over the secondary development contract to my agency before then.”
Right on cue, before Adrian could respond, a sharp, piercing sound cut through the quiet night air.
It wasn't a car horn. It wasn't the police siren Adrian had falsely threatened earlier.
It was the deep, rhythmic, bone-shaking thrum of heavy rotor blades hovering directly above our estate.
Adrian froze. His head snapped toward the floor-to-ceiling windows of the grand salon. The multi-million-dollar landscaping lights outside suddenly flickered and died, plunged into total darkness as the power grid to the entire private compound was abruptly severed.
“What the hell...?” Adrian muttered, dropping my collar and stumbling backward.
Before he could reach the window, the heavy oak front doors of the estate—reinforced steel-plated doors that required a biometric code to open—exploded inward with a deafening crash. Splintered wood and reinforced hinges flew across the marble foyer.
Through the dust and smoke, four massive men in matte-black tactical gear, bearing no police insignia but carrying advanced sub-machine guns and wearing night-vision visors, marched into the salon with terrifying, military-grade precision.
Vanessa shrieked, dropping her champagne glass. It shattered against the floor, spilling sparkling liquid like blood across the tiles.
“Who—who are you?!” Adrian screamed, holding his hands up defensively, his voice cracking with sudden, unadulterated terror. “This is private property! I am Adrian Vale! I’ll have you all arrested! I know the chief of police—”
The lead tactical operator ignored him entirely. He stepped aside, and behind him, walking with the slow, unhurried, terrifying grace of an executioner, came a man in a bespoke charcoal three-piece suit.
Silver-streaked hair, cold slate-grey eyes, and a posture of absolute, unchallengeable authority.
My father.
Michael Carter did not look like a retired accountant living in a modest cottage. He looked like the king of a hidden empire. He surveyed the ruined salon, the blood on the floor, the broken riding crop, and finally, his eyes landed on me.
For a fraction of a second, the cold, ruthless mask of the international billionaire dissolved, replaced by a devastating wave of paternal anguish. But the moment he looked back at Adrian Vale, that anguish hardened back into pure, unadulterated ice.
Adrian stared at my father, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. He recognized the face. Every corporate titan in America recognized that face from Forbes cover stories and closed-door economic summits—even if most people had forgotten what Michael Carter looked like in person over the last decade.
“M-Mr... Carter...?” Adrian choked out, taking a frantic step backward until the back of his knees hit the velvet sofa. “Sir... I—I didn't know... your daughter didn't tell me—”
“My daughter didn't have to tell you anything, Mr. Vale,” my father said, his voice smooth, quiet, and absolutely lethal. He walked forward, stopping just three feet away from Adrian. “Because you were too busy beating a woman who owned thirty percent of your holding company to notice whose name was actually on the deed of your entire life.”
Adrian’s eyes bulged out of his head. He looked from my father, down to me, and back again.
“Thirty percent...?” Adrian whispered, trembling violently. “No... that’s impossible... Vale Enterprises is public—”
“Publicly traded, privately backed,” my father interrupted softly. He raised his hand, snapping his fingers once.
From behind the tactical operatives, a young man in a sharp gray suit stepped forward holding a heavy leather briefcase and a glowing tablet.
“Sir,” the lawyer said clearly, addressing my father. “The emergency asset freeze has been executed across all international clearing houses. Vale Enterprises' credit lines have been entirely revoked by Zurich and London. Furthermore, all corporate accounts linked to Vanessa Moretti’s consulting agency have been seized under federal anti-money-laundering statutes.”
Vanessa let out a strangled gasp, stumbling backward into the coffee table. “Seized?! That’s my money! Adrian, tell them! Tell them it’s ours!”
Adrian couldn't speak. He was staring at my father with eyes wide with sheer, paralyzing horror, finally realizing the nightmare he had willingly walked into.
My father didn't even look at Vanessa. He walked right past Adrian, knelt down beside me on the cold marble floor, and gently, reverently draped his own expensive cashmere overcoat over my bleeding shoulders.
“It’s over, Elena,” my father whispered, kissing my forehead. “You’re coming home with me. And as for these two cockroaches...”
May you like
He stood back up, turning his chilling gaze back toward Adrian and Vanessa.
“...let’s see how long they survive when the world realizes they’re entirely broke.”
