Chapter 6 - The Unmasking in the BoardroomAt 9:00 AM the following morning, the high-rise corporate headquarters of Moretti Global Shipping in downtown Chicago was shrouded in an atmosphere of impending war.

The fifty-story glass tower's executive boardroom was packed to capacity. Forty senior directors, regional shipping bosses, and syndicate family heads sat around a thirty-foot obsidian conference table.
Sitting at the head of the table, holding a glass of scotch, looking arrogant and victorious, was Julian Vance.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Julian announced loudly, tapping his glass with a pen. "As you know, my stepbrother Mateo has been suffering from a severe, debilitating spinal condition for twelve years. His inability to sleep flat or manage daily stress makes him unfit to lead our South American expansion. I move to assume full executive authority—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the boardroom were thrown wide open!
The entire room fell into an immediate, suffocating silence.
Walking down the central carpeted aisle, flanked by Marcus Vance and six armed guards, was Mateo Moretti.
He wore an magnificent charcoal bespoke suit, his tall six-foot-two frame moving with a fluid, effortless, and powerful stride that had been absent for twelve years. His posture was straight, his chin lifted, his storm-gray eyes radiating an absolute, untouchable authority.
And holding his arm, wearing an breathtaking dark navy silk pantsuit, her dark hair pinned back in a sleek executive knot, was me.
Julian Vance dropped his scotch glass. The crystal shattered flat against the obsidian table, golden liquor splashing across his silk tie.
Every single director in the room stood up in total, shocked silence.
"M-Mateo?!" Julian stammered, his face turning an ugly, paper-white shade of green. "You... you're walking! You're standing straight!"
"I am standing straight, Julian," Mateo announced, his deep baritone echoing through the quiet room via the main surround-sound speakers. "And I am sleeping flat in my bed every night."
Bridget Colton—senior corporate litigator—stepped forward, opening a leather binder, projecting high-definition digital logs onto the room's forty-foot wall screens:
THE TWELVE-YEAR FRAUD: Certified wiretap logs showing Julian Vance paying off Mateo’s original surgeons in New York to misdiagnose his spinal injury and keep him dependent on narcotics.
THE EMBEZZLEMENT: Off-ledger accounts showing Julian embezzling $180 million through fraudulent port leasing fees in South America.
THE AMBUSH ORDER: Audio recordings from eighteen hours prior, capturing Julian ordering Enzo to attack Gia Moretti inside her gym.
The forty directors erupted into screaming, frantic chaos.
Julian thrashed his hands frantically. "THAT'S FABRICATED EVIDENCE! HE'S A CRIPPLE! HE CAN'T RUN THIS COMPANY!"
Mateo walked up to the head of the table. He didn't yell. He reached out, grabbed Julian by his silk lapels with effortless, immense physical strength, lifting his stepbrother off the floor, slamming him flat against the glass wall window.
"The cripple is gone, Julian," Mateo whispered into his ear, his voice quiet, cold, and lethal. "And your reign is over."
Two armed federal marshals stepped through the side doors, holding heavy steel handcuffs.
"Julian Vance," Lead Marshal Miller declared. "You are under arrest for Corporate Wire Fraud, Systemic Embezzlement, Attempted Assault, and Conspiracy."
CLICK. CLICK.
The cold steel cuffs locked tightly around Julian’s wrists behind his back. He thrashed and shrieked as federal marshals dragged him out of the boardroom in total, public disgrace.
Mateo turned to the forty directors, pulled out the high-backed leather chair at the head of the table, and offered it to me.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Mateo announced proudly. "Allow me to introduce our new Head of Human Performance & Executive Health: Gia Moretti."
The forty directors stood up and applauded in a warm, unanimous chorus.
