Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 10:00 A.M. the following morning, the grand mahogany ballroom of the St. Regis Hotel in downtown Manhattan was packed to absolute capacity.

Over three hundred high-society investors, corporate logistics magnates, city officials, and federal prosecutors gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the annual Moretti Maritime Syndicate Summit.
Standing at the central podium, wearing a dark red designer tuxedo, holding a glass of vintage champagne, was sixty-two-year-old Victor Moretti—Adrian’s arrogant, greedy uncle. Beside him stood his socialite daughter, Vanessa Moretti, smirking as they prepared to sign the corporate merger papers that would absorb Adrian’s shipping berths into their offshore shell company.
"Gentlemen!" Victor announced into the microphone, his voice dripping with condescending authority, "today we celebrate fifty years of Moretti corporate expansion, while officially ratifying the administrative buyout of my nephew Adrian’s accounts—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the grand ballroom were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
The chatter of three hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.
Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Adrian Moretti.
He wore a dark charcoal bespoke suit, his six-foot-five broad frame squared, his tattooed forearms extending from his crisp white cuffs, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.
And walking right beside him, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk gown that celebrated her soft, radiant curves, her dark hair styled in glossy waves over her shoulders, was me.
Victor Moretti dropped his champagne glass.
CRASH!
The crystal glass shattered flat against the parquet floorboards, sparkling wine splashing over his designer shoes. His face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Vanessa Moretti took two panicked steps backward, clutching her pearls.
"A-ADRIAN...?! CLAIRE?!" Victor stammered, taking two frantic steps backward against the table. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! SHE IS JUST A HOUSEMAID!"
"She isn't a housemaid, Victor," Adrian announced flatly, his clear, deep baritone carrying cleanly across the silent ballroom, dropping the temperature to zero. "She is the Chief Executive Trustee of the Moretti Heritage Foundation... and the woman who saved my life."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Victor Moretti’s trembling hands:
TOTAL MARITIME RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Moretti Trust Deeds, transferring 100% controlling common stock equity directly to Chairwoman Claire Bennett-Moretti.
THE HOMICIDE & TREASON INDICTMENT: Federal arrest warrants served on Victor Moretti and Dean Russo for Premeditated Attempted Murder, Corporate Sabotage, and $30 Million Embezzlement.
IMMEDIATE TERMINATION: Permanent revocation of all board titles and operational credentials held by Victor Moretti.
"WHAT IS THIS?!" Vanessa shrieked, thrashing as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "YOU CAN'T SEIZE OUR BERTHS FOR A MAID'S ACCUSATION!"
"She isn't an accusation, Vanessa," Adrian corrected deadpan, stepping beside my chair, wrapping his broad, warm arm around my waist, pulling my curvy frame flush against his side. "She is my wife. And she owns your entire company."
