Chapter 7 - The Crown We Choose

Six months later, the transformation of Cascade Pack was complete.
The old debt had been entirely paid off, replaced by sustainable green energy grants, modern water filtration plants, and community housing projects that brought hundreds of displaced pack members back home. My father had been quietly relocated to a comfortable estate in Florida, far away from any financial ledgers or political influence, living out his retirement in absolute obscurity.
And on a crisp, bright autumn afternoon, the grand ballroom of the Croft Estate on the Olympic Peninsula was filled not with terrified socialites or whispering councilmen, but with family, trusted allies, and friends.
There were no panic buttons on the doors. There were no chains, no threats, and no shadows.
I stood in front of the massive floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Pacific Ocean, wearing a sleek, tailored ivory gown, my hand resting comfortably in the crook of Kane’s arm.
The transformation in him over the past half-year was staggering. The dark, volatile aura of a wounded predator had settled into the deep, unshakeable confidence of a true king—a man who no longer had to fight his own mind in the dark because he had finally found his anchor.
Chloe was across the room laughing with Gideon, while old and new pack members mingled freely, celebrating a new era of unity and strength across the Northwest territories.
Kane turned to look down at me, his golden eyes filled with a raw, fierce devotion that made the rest of the crowded room fade into absolute insignificance.
“You know,” Kane murmured softly, his thumb gently stroking the back of my hand, “when you walked into my suite six months ago, asking if I was tired, I thought you were just another clever human trying to survive.”
“And what do you think now?” I asked, turning my head to meet his gaze, a playful smile touching my lips.
“I think you walked into the darkest room in the Northwest, looked the monster dead in the eye, and decided to rebuild him from the ground up,” Kane whispered, leaning down until his forehead rested gently against mine. “You didn't just save Cascade, Harper. You saved me.”
I reached up, my hand resting softly against the strong line of his jaw, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm of his pulse beneath my fingertips.
“We saved each other, Kane,” I whispered back.
He smiled—a genuine, radiant smile that chased away every ghost of the past—and pulled me flush against his chest.

As the sun sank below the horizon, painting the ocean in brilliant shades of gold and fire, I knew the journey hadn't been easy, and the responsibilities of leading two packs would demand everything we had. But standing there in the arms of the man everyone had called a monster, I knew we were unbreakable.
The crown we wore wasn't built on fear, debt, or silence. It was forged in resilience, honesty, and a love fierce enough to tame any storm.
