Chapter 5 - The Collapse of Vance GlobalBy 9:00 AM on Monday morning, the news of Daniel Vance’s sudden, total removal from the Bennett Shipping Agency detonated across the Virginia maritime industry like a high-yield depth charge.

The headlines on the regional financial networks were absolute: DANIEL VANCE OUSTED AS CEO OF BENNETT SHIPPING AMID FRAUD INVESTIGATION; CLAIRE BENNETT-VANCE ASSUMES SOLE CHAIRPERSON ROLE.

Inside the grand, marble-paved foyer of the shipping agency's headquarters near the Norfolk waterfront, eighty employees, terminal managers, and harbor commissioners were gathered for an emergency all-hands briefing.

I walked down the central marble staircase wearing a tailored navy suit, my dark hair styled in glossy waves, my posture tall, fluid, and commanding.

Flanking me were Arthur Sterling and my brother, Richard—who had officially signed over his voting proxies to me twenty minutes ago after seeing the evidence of Daniel's forgery.

I stepped up to the podium, looking out at the eighty men and women who kept our ports running every day.

"Good morning," I announced, my voice carrying clear, crisp, and absolute through the high-ceilinged room. "Effective six o'clock this morning, Daniel Vance has been permanently severed from all corporate operations, board voting rights, and physical access to this property."

A sharp, collective gasp rippled across the room, followed by frantic whispers among the terminal managers.

"Over the last fourteen months," I continued smoothly, "Daniel attempted to execute an illegal, secondary transfer of this firm's waterfront equity to an offshore holding company. Every dollar of that equity has been recovered, secured, and placed permanently into the Bennett Family Operating Trust."

Richard stepped up beside me, placing a hand on my shoulder, looking at the assembled staff.

"My sister is the sole, undivided leader of this agency," Richard declared cleanly. "And under her leadership, Bennett Shipping is expanding our primary terminal leases by twenty percent this quarter."

The room erupted into a loud, warm, and unanimous round of applause that echoed off the high marble walls.

Meanwhile, three miles away, inside a small, rented two-bedroom apartment near the highway, Daniel sat on a bare mattress surrounded by three cardboard boxes of his personal clothing.

His corporate credit cards were cancelled, his private luxury sedan repossessed, his name blacklisted across every shipping board on the East Coast, and his personal bank accounts frozen pending the civil restitution audit.

He sat in the dark room, watching the news broadcast on his phone, watching his ex-wife stand tall, beautiful, and sovereign before a cheering crowd, realizing with absolute, terrifying clarity that the quiet woman he had tried to destroy was the only person who had ever kept his world from falling apart.
