Chapter 6 - The Sanctuary at Lake ShoreIn late September 2026, on a clear, warm Saturday afternoon, the sweeping oceanfront gardens of the Vance Estate in Upper Manhattan were decorated with blooming white orchids, yellow sunflowers, and sunlit tables for the twins' six-month dedication celebration and our official vow renewal.

The dark, predatory shadow of freezing overpasses, cruel husbands, and silent tears was permanently, historically erased from our lives.

Over three hundred prominent community leaders, supreme court justices, Marcus Vance, Bridget Colton, top pediatric specialists, and close friends gathered around white-linen tables set up along the stone patio, enjoying fine food, vintage wine, and live acoustic music.

I stood near the grand marble balustrade wearing a breathtaking floor-length ivory silk wedding gown that caught the soft Atlantic breeze.

In a sunlit wooden playpen on the manicured green lawn, six-month-old Lily and Grace cooed happily, rolling over on soft fleece blankets, reaching for colorful wooden toys under the warm autumn sun.

Elias Vance walked out onto the stone terrace wearing an immaculate dark tuxedo, holding two glasses of sunlit champagne, stepping up beside me near the balustrade.

He wrapped his broad, warm arm around my waist, pulling my back flush against his solid, six-foot-three frame, leaning down to press a sweet, lingering kiss against my temple.

"What are you thinking about, my queen?" Elias whispered softly into my ear.

I looked out over the vast, sparkling blue waters of the Hudson River stretching before us into the unbroken horizon, leaning my head comfortably back against his broad chest.

"I was thinking about a freezing overpass, Elias," I answered softly, a radiant, beautiful smile lighting up my face. "And how your coat brought us straight to our true home."

Elias offered a soft, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up his severe, handsome features.

"You saved my soul, Ava," Elias promised, his deep baritone thick with emotion, pulling me closer under the autumn sun. "And I will spend the rest of my life protecting yours."
