Chapter 4 - The Unmasking(Focus: The confrontation on the stage; Evelyn's terror and Richard's denial; the reveal of the original will and the live-streamed fraud.)

Richard’s confident smile froze, his eyes widening in a split second of sheer, primal terror as his gaze locked onto my face. The microphone in his hand trembled, emitting a low, discordant feedback whine that echoed through the silent ballroom.

"Arthur...?" Richard whispered, his voice cracking, completely losing its professional depth. "No... that’s impossible. You're dead."

Beside him, Evelyn’s champagne glass slipped from her fingers, shattering on the stage floor, the sparkling liquid soaking into the hem of her designer gown. Her face turned a sickly, translucent shade of grey. "Arthur...?"

"You look like you've seen a ghost, Richard," I said, walking up the steps of the stage, my boots clicking softly against the polished wood. I stood at the opposite end of the podium, looking down at my younger brother. "But as you can see, I am very much alive. And I've brought some old paperwork you forgot to destroy."

"Security!" Richard roared, his face contorted with a sudden, manic panic. "Remove this impostor! He is a mentally unstable vagrant who is trying to disrupt this gala! Get him out of here!"

Four large security guards rushed onto the stage, their hands reaching for my arms. But before they could touch me, the double doors at the back of the ballroom opened, and several federal marshals, accompanied by my attorney, Daniel, marched into the room.

"Stand down," the lead marshal commanded, flashing his badge. "We are executing an federal warrant for corporate fraud, identity theft, and asset seizure against Richard Vance."

The crowd erupted into a chaotic storm of whispers and gasps. Phones were pulled out, their camera lights reflecting off the stage as the entire high-society event turned into a live-streamed nightmare for the Vance brand.

"This is a setup!" Richard screamed, pointing a shaking finger at me. "He has no proof! He disappeared six years ago! He signed over his shares!"

"I didn't sign anything, Richard," I said, opening the leather briefcase on the podium and displaying the original, certified copy of my father’s will to the cameras. "You forged my signature on the transfer deeds. You paid off the Swiss aviation inspectors to write off the helicopter crash as an accident. And you forged my daughter Lily’s death certificate to prevent her from inheriting her rightful share of the estate."

"You... you can't prove that," Evelyn stammered, her voice shaking as she took a step back, her hand instinctively clutching her diamond necklace. "Arthur, please... we thought you were dead. I was forced into this marriage... Richard threatened me!"

"Save the performance for the judge, Evelyn," I said, looking at her with absolute disgust. "You faked your distress to extract my last fifty thousand dollars, hoping I would run out of money and disappear. But you forgot that a mother who abandons her child for a luxury penthouse is never protected by the truth."

Daniel, my attorney, walked onto the stage and handed a tablet to the lead marshal. "The offshore transaction logs have been verified, officer. Richard Vance has systematically embezzled over eighty million dollars from the company’s retirement funds to cover his personal trading losses."

The lead marshal nodded, stepping toward Richard. "Richard Vance, you are under arrest."

As the handcuffs clicked around Richard’s wrists, the reality of his ruin finally broke through his arrogance. He collapsed onto his knees, screaming curses at me, while Evelyn wept against the podium, her diamonds looking incredibly cheap in the bright, unforgiving lights of the ballroom.
