Chapter 4 - The Purge of Michigan AvenueBy 11:00 AM, the news of the arrest of Marcus Vance and the unmasking of the Sterling Acquisitions conspiracy had sent shockwaves through the Chicago financial district.

I arrived at the headquarters of Holloway Enterprises on Michigan Avenue in a three-car armored convoy. I didn't wear a bespoke suit or a silk tie. I wore dark trousers, a simple sweater, and carried a single leather binder containing certified trust documents.

I strode through the grand marble lobby with heavy, deliberate, unstoppable strides.

Standing near the executive reception desk, her face pale as paper, her manicured fingers trembling as she typed frantically on her terminal, was Sophia Reynolds.

When she saw me walking toward her, flanked by Prosecutor Vance and four private security officers, she dropped her coffee cup flat onto the marble floor.

CRASH!

"M-Mr. Holloway...!" Sophia stammered, backing away toward the wall. "I... I heard about Marcus! I had no idea what he was doing! I swear to God I was just following corporate protocols—"

"You turned my pregnant wife away from my office lobby in November, Sophia," I stated, my voice an icy, frozen register that carried cleanly across the high-ceilinged atrium, silencing two hundred employees.

Sophia went dead white. "Mr. Holloway... please... I was told she was an ex-wife seeking money—"

"You refused to validate her parking while she was suffering from morning sickness with my twins," I continued, stepping two inches from her desk. "You intercepted three certified medical packages from St. Joseph's Hospital. And you accepted two hundred thousand dollars in wire transfers from Sterling Acquisitions to act as their internal filter."

Bridget Colton—senior matrimonial and corporate litigator—stepped forward, placing legal notices flat onto the marble desk:

TERMINATION FOR CAUSE: Immediate, summary dismissal from Holloway Enterprises with forfeiture of all stock options, pensions, and severance packages.

CIVIL ASSET SEIZURE: Freezing of all personal bank accounts and properties purchased using kickback funds.

CRIMINAL SUBPOENA: Formal delivery of subpoenas to appear before the Grand Jury regarding corporate espionage and obstruction of medical welfare.

Two uniformed officers stepped forward, locking heavy steel handcuffs around Sophia’s wrists behind her back.

She wept hysterical, pathetic pleas as officers dragged her out of the Michigan Avenue headquarters in total, public disgrace, surrounded by news cameras capturing her downfall for the afternoon news.

I turned to face the assembled board of directors standing near the elevators.

"As of 11:15 AM today," I announced to the entire corporate team, "all acquisition negotiations with Sterling Acquisitions are permanently terminated. I am executing my fifty-one percent controlling share vote to convert twenty percent of our commercial real estate portfolio into The Sophie & Noah Holloway Pediatric Health Trust, providing full funding for regional childcare safety infrastructures across Illinois."

The entire lobby erupted into thunderous, unanimous applause as I turned on my heel, leaving the corporate world behind to return to where my real life was waiting.
