Chapter 6 - The Festival of SoundIn late September 2026, the grand ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel in downtown Baltimore was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Volkov Civic & Pediatric Audiology Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, medical specialists, and high-society figures gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing an magnificent charcoal bespoke tuxedo, was Damian Volkov. His broad six-foot-four frame was squared, his severe, handsome face radiating an unshakeable, sovereign authority and a profound, radiant peace.
Beside him stood four-year-old Lila, wearing a sparkling silver princess dress, holding her stuffed rabbit proudly in her hand.
Standing on Damian’s right, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown that celebrated my tall, graceful figure, holding Damian's hand with a warm, unbreakable grip, was me.
Damian adjusted the microphone, his deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Six weeks ago, I was a man dying in a dark room, surrounded by lies and poison," Damian announced to the silent room, his dark eyes shining with deep, genuine pride as he looked down at Lila and me. "And then a little four-year-old angel who couldn't hear a single word walked into my room... and saved my life with her quiet truth and her brave little heart."
Damian held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights, then turned to Lila and signed with perfect, elegant speed:
YOU... ARE... MY... HERO.
Lila’s small face lit up with a radiant, breathtaking smile. She beamed with pride, signing back:
May you like
LOVE... YOU... DADDY.
The entire ballroom erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky as tears of joy flowed freely among the guests.
