Chapter 4 - The Boardroom CoupThe emergency shareholders' meeting of Vale Global Logistics was scheduled for 10:00 AM on a crisp Thursday morning in the sleek glass monolith towering over Boston’s financial district.

Normally, such meetings were mundane affairs filled with dry quarterly reports and polite applause. Today, the glass-walled executive boardroom on the forty-fifth floor felt like a war zone.
Seated around the massive quartz conference table were twelve members of the board of directors, alongside Jonathan Vale, who sat at the head of the table with an air of arrogant confidence. He had spent the last two days rallying allies, whispering about "unverified claimants" and "unstable gold-diggers" attempting to destabilize the company’s stock.
The heavy double doors swung open.
All eyes turned toward the entrance.
Adrian walked in first, wearing a tailored charcoal suit, his expression completely unreadable. Behind him walked Marcus, followed by two federal agents in dark suits holding leather briefcases, and finally—at Adrian’s explicit insistence—myself.
I wore a sharp, navy-blue pantsuit, my hair pulled back into a sleek chignon. I wasn't the terrified, exhausted server standing by the champagne tables anymore. I was Rose Bennett’s daughter, and I was here to claim what was stolen from my mother.
Jonathan stood up from his chair, a smug smile plastered across his face.
“Adrian, what is the meaning of this?” Jonathan projected loudly for the benefit of the board. “We are in the middle of a private corporate session. Bringing unauthorized civilians—and federal agents—into this boardroom is a gross violation of corporate protocol!”
“Sit down, Jonathan,” Adrian said calmly, taking his seat at the center of the table. He gestured for me to sit beside him.
“I will not sit down until you explain—”
“Sit down,” Adrian repeated, his voice dropping into a register so chillingly lethal that Jonathan actually swallowed hard and dropped back into his chair.
Adrian looked around the table, meeting the gaze of every director in the room.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” Adrian began, his voice echoing off the glass walls. “For thirty-two years, this board operated under the tragic assumption that my aunt Rosalie Vale perished without heirs. Yesterday, forensic DNA verification, combined with generational family records and estate trusts, confirmed beyond a shadow of a doubt that Rosalie’s biological daughter—Rachel Bennett—is alive, and that her granddaughter, Lucia, carries our blood.”
A murmur of shock rippled through the board members. Several directors immediately began whispering behind their hands.
Jonathan slammed his palm onto the quartz table. “This is a fraud! A circus stunt designed to manipulate our stock price! We haven't seen any legitimate DNA results—!”
“Actually, Mr. Vale, you have,” one of the federal agents interrupted smoothly, stepping forward and placing a thick manila folder directly in front of Jonathan.
Jonathan stared at the folder, his fingers trembling as he opened it. Inside were not just DNA verification charts, but certified bank wire records, offshore transfer logs, and forensic accounting statements detailing how millions of dollars had been systematically siphoned out of the dormant Rosalie Vale trust over the past fifteen years.
Every single transfer led back to a private, unregistered shell company registered in the Cayman Islands under Jonathan Vale’s direct personal signature.
The color drained entirely from Jonathan’s face. He looked like a man who had just been dragged out into the middle of the street and stripped naked.
“This... this is forgery,” Jonathan stammered, sweat beading on his forehead. “These documents were fabricated! You can't prove—!”
“We recorded your phone threat to Rachel yesterday morning as well,” Adrian said quietly, sliding his own phone across the table and hitting play.
The crystal-clear audio of Jonathan’s oily voice filled the silent boardroom: ‘If you and your daughter sign over your inheritance rights quietly... I’ll see to it that you walk away with five million dollars... Refuse... and you’ll find out just how fast accidents happen in Boston.’
The room went dead.
The federal agent stepped closer to Jonathan, resting his hand casually over the handcuffs dangling from his belt.
“Jonathan Vale, you are under arrest for corporate embezzlement, wire fraud, extortion, and interstate threats,” the agent stated clearly.
Before Jonathan could lunge for the door, Marcus and the second agent moved in, pinning his arms behind his back and snapping the steel cuffs around his wrists.

As they dragged a screaming, cursing Jonathan toward the private elevators, Adrian didn't even turn his head to watch him go. He simply looked across the table at the stunned board of directors.
“Meeting adjourned,” Adrian said softly. “Welcome to the new era of Vale Global Logistics.”
