Chapter 7 - The Horizon We BuiltSix months later, the La Jolla estate looked completely restored. The shattered front doors had been replaced with reinforced mahogany, the gardens bloomed brilliantly beneath the coastal sun, and the deep, suffocating silence that had once haunted our marriage was gone forever, replaced by the bright, joyful sounds of life.

On the wide back patio overlooking the sparkling blue Pacific, Eric sat in a comfortable lounge chair with our nephew—our son, in every way that mattered—fast asleep against his chest. The baby’s little hand clutched tightly onto Eric’s thumb, just like it had that first night under the moonlight.
Clara was alive, recovering safely in a secure medical sanctuary in Switzerland, and thanks to the dismantling of the syndicate, she was finally scheduled to come home to us next month for a reunion that had been four years in the making.
I walked out through the sliding glass doors carrying a tray of fresh lemonade and two crystal glasses, stepping softly across the stone pavers.
Eric looked up, his tired, haunted eyes from six months ago replaced by a deep, radiant peace. He smiled as I sat down on the lounger beside him, leaning my head against his shoulder.
“You okay?” he asked softly, using his free hand to pull me closer.
“More than okay,” I whispered, watching the sunlight dance across the ocean waves. “We survived the storm, Eric.”
“We did,” he agreed, pressing a tender kiss to the top of my head before looking down at the sleeping baby. “And we’re never keeping secrets again. No matter how hard the truth is.”
“Promise?”
May you like
“I swear it,” Eric smiled, his billionaire software empire secure, his family finally reunited, and his heart completely open. “Now... do you think our son is ready to learn how to code, or should we wait until he’s at least six months old?”
I laughed, a bright, clear sound that carried out over the water, celebrating the dawn of a brand-new horizon.
