Chapter 2 - The Raid on Safehouse 4BBy 1:00 AM, a heavy storm raged over the industrial docks of Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Three midnight-black armored Maybachs screeched to a halt outside an abandoned four-story brick medical warehouse near the waterfront.
Inside the lead vehicle, three-year-old Mila sat safely in the rear seat under the personal protection of Marcus Vance—Luca’s chief of private security—and four armed operatives.
Luca stepped out into the freezing rain, wearing an magnificent charcoal wool overcoat over his dark suit. He pulled a heavy, suppressed Sig Sauer pistol from his shoulder holster, his six-foot-four frame radiating an unshakeable, sovereign authority.
"Don Luca," Marcus reported through the earpiece. "Thermal imaging confirms three armed guards inside the fourth-floor medical wing. There is a patient in the central ICU bed."
"No casualties among the medical staff," Luca commanded flatly. "Execute."
BOOM!
The reinforced steel doors of the Red Hook warehouse were blown wide open with a violent, hydraulic breach!
Luca moved through the dark, dust-filled corridors like a silent shadow, his team neutralizing the three rogue syndicate hitmen within forty-five seconds without firing a single lethal shot.
Luca pushed open the double doors of the fourth-floor ICU room.
The room smelled of iodine, clean linen, and oxygen.
Lying on a hospital bed, surrounded by heart monitors and IV pumps, was Elena Rossi.
At twenty-eight, she looked frail, her pale skin translucent, her dark hair falling in soft waves over her shoulders. She wore a simple white hospital gown, her hazel eyes wide with disbelief as the heavy oak doors swung open.
When her eyes landed on Luca's tall, imposing frame standing in the doorway, her breath caught in her throat. A single tear spilled over her lashes, tracking down her pale cheek.
"Luca..." Elena whispered, her voice a thin, fragile thread.
Luca dropped his weapon into his holster. He walked across the room with heavy, unhurried strides, dropping flat onto his knees beside her hospital bed, taking her thin, calloused hand into his large, trembling palms.
"Elena... my God, Elena..." Luca choked out, his broad shoulders shaking violently as he pressed his lips against her knuckles. "You're alive... you're really alive..."
Elena reached up with her other hand, her fingers gently touching his scarred jawline, brushing away a stray tear from his eye.
"Charlotte didn't kill me that night, Luca," Elena revealed softly, her voice thick with unreserved emotion. "The doctor she hired... Dr. Miller... he was my father's old friend. He replaced the toxin with a high-dose paralytic agent that faked my clinical death."
Luca looked into her eyes with a look of pure, eternal devotion. "And the phone call...?"
"Dr. Miller kept me hidden in a induced coma for two years to protect me from Charlotte's network," Elena explained. "When I woke up three months ago, I found out where my mother had hidden our daughter. I sent Mila to you tonight because I knew... I knew you were the only man on earth who could break Charlotte's hold."
The heavy ICU door swung open softly.
Marcus Vance walked into the room, holding three-year-old Mila in his arms.
Mila looked at the hospital bed, then looked at Luca kneeling on the floor. Her small face lit up with a radiant, breathtaking smile.

"MOMMY!" Mila squealed, sliding down from Marcus's arms, running across the floorboards with her little yellow shoes, scrambling up onto the edge of the mattress.
Elena pulled her daughter into her arms, burying her face in Mila's dark curls, weeping tears of pure, weightless joy as Luca wrapped his broad arms around both of them, anchoring his new family against his chest forever.
