Chapter 4 - The Audit of the BetrayalThe fire that detonated inside my chest was no longer the chaotic rage of a grieving man; it was the cold, sovereign, unstoppable fire of a Don reclaiming his empire.

Within two hours, my private security chief, Bridget Colton, and a team of six loyal Vance Security operatives had locked down the primary communications hub in the basement of the estate.

Bridget set a thick leather folder bound by red seals flat onto my desk beside Lily's stuffed rabbit, which now rested on a velvet stand.

"Don Adrian," Bridget reported, her sharp blue eyes holding deep professional fury. "We executed a forensic audit of Marcus Vale’s off-ledger accounts from 2023 to 2026."

"Read it, Bridget," I ordered flatly, holding three-year-old Lily on my lap while she happily drew pictures with pink crayons on my executive stationary.

Bridget pulled up the high-definition wire transfer logs on my wall screen:

THE EXPLOSION PROOF: Marcus Vale received a $15 million wire transfer from a rival cartel holding group three days before my car exploded on Saturday.

THE PLATFORM COLLAPSE: The platform collapse that killed Elena’s husband was artificially triggered to destroy structural inspection logs proving Marcus had embezzled $40 million from the Hudson Shipping Trust.

THE CORPORATE COUP: Marcus Vale had scheduled a special assembly of the Midwest Syndicate Board for tomorrow morning at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan to formally strip my remaining voting shares, claiming I was mentally incapacitated.

My hand tightened around the armrest of my wheelchair until the titanium frame groaned under the pressure.

"He didn't just murder my wife and daughter, Bridget," I whispered, my baritone dropping into a deadly, frozen register that made the room's temperature drop to zero. "He murdered Elena’s husband, took away my legs, and spent three years building an empire on our blood."

I looked down at Lily, who looked up at me, holding up a drawing of a big bear and a little bear holding hands under a yellow sun.

"Daddy Adrian," Lily smiled sweetly, pointing to the drawing. "Look! That's you and me!"

I offered a soft, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up my severe features.

"It is, princess," I promised, kissing her forehead. "And tomorrow, Daddy is going to make sure nobody ever hurts our family again."
