Chapter 6 - The Fall of the House of CarusoOver the next three weeks, the New York fashion world experienced an earthquake from which it would never truly recover.

The glittering illusion of Caruso Design Group dissolved under the glaring spotlight of federal investigations, forensic accounting audits, and relentless investigative journalism. When Marcus Vance released the digital ledger proving that every single iconic design that had made the Caruso brand a billionaire empire was actually conceived, sketched, and perfected by a quiet, sidelined wife named Nora Caruso, public opinion turned with the force of a tidal wave.

Investors fled in droves. International department stores canceled their upcoming orders for the winter bridal collection.

And Vanessa Moretti, realizing that the sinking ship was about to drag her down into legal oblivion, publicly released a blistering statement to Women’s Wear Daily claiming that Dominic had systematically deceived her about the true origin of the designs and manipulated her into signing fraudulent partnership agreements.

Dominic’s high-priced defense attorneys tried everything to negotiate a quiet settlement, offering me a multi-million-dollar non-disclosure agreement and a fraction of the corporate shares in exchange for dropping the federal fraud charges.

I didn't even dignify their offers with a response.

My legal team—headed by Marcus himself—proceeded with total, unyielding ruthlessness.

On a cold Tuesday morning in late October, the civil court in lower Manhattan was packed to absolute capacity. Journalists, fashion industry insiders, and curious onlookers spilled out into the marble hallways, all eager to witness the final reckoning of Manhattan’s most prominent corporate dynasty.

I walked into the courtroom wearing a tailored, charcoal-grey pantsuit that projected absolute authority. My hair was pulled back into a sleek knot, and the bruise on my cheek had completely faded, leaving behind only the hardened, unbreakable resolve of a woman who had walked through fire and emerged victorious.

Sitting across the aisle at the defense table, Dominic looked like a ghost of the man he used to be. His bespoke suits hung loosely on his frame, his hair was graying at the temples, and his eyes were hollowed out by weeks of sleepless nights, intense interrogation, and the slow, agonizing realization that his entire life’s work had evaporated into thin air.

Judge Margaret Vance—a stern, highly respected federal jurist known for her zero-tolerance policy on corporate malfeasance and domestic intimidation—sat behind the high mahogany bench.

“The court has reviewed the complete forensic audit, copyright registrations, and sworn testimonies regarding Caruso Design Group,” Judge Vance announced, her voice echoing clearly through the hushed courtroom. “The evidence demonstrates conclusively that the petitioner, Nora Bennett-Caruso, is the sole legal creator and rightful owner of the intellectual property comprising ninety-four percent of the corporate valuation.”

She paused, looking directly down at Dominic, who sat rigidly in his chair.

“Furthermore, the court finds clear and convincing evidence of systematic asset concealment, marital fraud, and severe breach of fiduciary and marital trust.”

Judge Vance struck her gavel once with a sharp, echoing crack.

“Judgment is entered in full for the petitioner. All corporate assets, trademark rights, and remaining liquidity of Caruso Design Group are hereby awarded exclusively to Nora Bennett-Caruso. Furthermore, criminal referrals for wire fraud and perjury have been forwarded to the United States Attorney's Office.”

A low murmur rippled through the courtroom gallery.

Dominic buried his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking as the gavel sounded the death knell for his empire.
