Chapter 3 - Family ReunionThe silence in the penthouse was absolute, save for the faint hum of the city lights outside.

Finn froze dead in his tracks, his eyes darting from my face to the glass of whiskey still resting on the small table near the foyer, and finally landing on his father. The color drained completely from Finn’s face, leaving him looking sickly pale under the recessed lighting.
“Dad?” Finn squeaked out, his voice cracking with sheer, unadulterated terror. “What... what is going on here? Why is Lara with you?”
Meredith stepped up beside him, her professional composure visibly fracturing. She tried to smooth down the collar of her silk blouse, casting a nervous, calculating glance toward Ronan. “Mr. Callahan, this is a misunderstanding. We were just—finn called me because—”
“Shut up, Meredith,” Ronan said.
The words weren't shouted. They weren't angry. They were delivered in that low, glacial register that commanded absolute submission. Meredith snapped her mouth shut instantly, taking a panicked step backward.
Ronan didn't move. He stood beside me, his shoulder brushing mine, creating an unspoken, impenetrable wall between us and them.
“You left my apartment door wide open, Finn,” I said, my voice cutting through the heavy air like a scalpel. I stepped forward, lifting my chin, shedding every ounce of the broken-hearted girl who had dropped the vodka sauce jar two hours ago. “You also left your phone unlocked on the kitchen island. It turns out when you’re stupid enough to cheat, you’re usually stupid enough to leave a paper trail.”
Finn’s eyes bulged. “You... you went through my phone?”
“I didn't have to,” I lied smoothly, watching the panic swallow him whole. “Your father’s security team already had copies of your corporate embezzlement files from Callahan Development’s subsidiary accounts. Meredith isn't just your mistress, Finn. She’s your partner in draining your father’s logistics budget to fund your secret condo in River North.”
Meredith let out a sharp gasp, her face turning bright crimson. “That is a complete fabrication! Mr. Callahan, don't listen to her, she’s hysterical, she’s—!”
“She is the smartest person in this room, Ms. Shaw,” Ronan interrupted, his voice dropping into something genuinely lethal. He slowly walked toward his son, his tall frame looming over Finn like an approaching avalanche. “For six months, I’ve been auditing the North Side shipping division. I knew someone was bleeding the accounts. I just didn't realize my own flesh and blood was dumb enough to use a company credit card to buy a Cartier watch for his side piece.”
Finn shrank back until his shoulders hit the elevator doors. “Dad, I swear to God, I can explain—it’s not what it looks like—!”
“You’re cut off,” Ronan said quietly, stopping inches from his son’s face. “Every card, every trust fund, every share in Callahan Development, and every residential property registered in your name is being frozen as of midnight tonight. By morning, my corporate lawyers will have you stripped of your title, your office, and your dignity.”
“Dad, you can’t do that! I’m your son!” Finn screamed, all pretense of sophistication vanishing as he grabbed desperately at Ronan’s sleeve.
Ronan looked down at Finn’s hand with absolute disgust, then slowly peeled the fingers away, one by one.
“My son would have had the brains not to humiliate himself over a cheap imitation of a woman while engaged to a brilliant, loyal auditor who was holding his entire life together,” Ronan said, his voice dripping with venom. He turned his head slightly, calling out into the empty hallway. “Hayes! Escort these two clowns out of my building. And if either of them comes within five miles of my property again, make sure they regret it.”
Hayes materialized from the shadows like a ghost, grabbing Finn by the collar with one massive hand and Meredith by the arm with the other. They didn't even fight back; they were dragged backward into the elevator as the doors slid shut, sealing their ruin in absolute silence.
When the chime signaled the elevator’s descent, the penthouse felt instantly lighter, cleaner, and emptier.

I stood in the middle of the vast living room, my heart hammering against my ribs, watching Ronan walk slowly back toward me across the polished hardwood floors.
“Well,” Ronan said, stopping a foot away, his dark eyes gleaming with a strange, intense fascination. “That took care of the trash. Now... what do we do about you?”
