Chapter 6 - The Fall of the House of CaldwellPandemonium erupted in the grand ballroom.

Screams of shock, gasps of absolute disbelief, and the frantic clicking of camera shutters merged into a deafening wall of noise. Socialites scrambled backward away from Caldwell as if he carried the plague, while several high-ranking city officials who had taken his bribe money turned violently green and bolted for the exit doors.

Caldwell stood paralyzed on the stage, staring up at the giant projector screen displaying his crimes in glaring high-definition color. The untouchable billionaire had been completely, unceremoniously stripped of his armor in front of the entire city.

“It’s a forgery!” Caldwell screamed hysterically, lunging forward to grab the microphone from my hand. “It’s all lies fabricated by Duca to destroy my company—”

Thud.

Marcus materialized beside him with terrifying efficiency, catching Caldwell by the collar of his bespoke tuxedo and slamming him hard against the edge of the mahogany podium.

“Save it for the federal judge, Vincent,” Marcus growled coldly.

Heavy double doors at the rear of the ballroom burst open with a resounding crash.

A dozen armed U.S. Marshals in full tactical gear poured into the room, led by a federal prosecutor holding a signed arrest warrant. They swarmed the stage, parting the panicked crowd like the Red Sea.

“Vincent Caldwell?” the lead marshal demanded, stepping up to the trembling, broken man. “You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, money laundering, kidnapping, and attempted murder. Turn around and place your hands behind your back.”

Caldwell opened his mouth to protest, but the words caught in his throat. He looked around the ballroom, seeing a hundred former friends and allies glaring at him with pure hatred and disgust.

With shaking hands, he slowly turned around, and the metallic click of steel handcuffs locked tightly around his wrists.

As the marshals dragged him down the aisle, his feet dragging heavily across the imported carpet, I stood quietly at the center of the stage, watching the architect of so much misery finally get hauled away to the fate he had so richly earned.

The screen behind me continued to display Sarah’s face—a symbol of survival, resilience, and the unyielding truth that no matter how deep you bury your sins, the foundation will eventually crack.

And as the flashing lights of the media cameras blinded me from the back of the room, I knew the hardest part of the night was still ahead of me.

Going home to tell a little girl that the monsters under her bed were finally gone for good.
