Chapter 7 - Epilogue — The Dawn of a New EmpireTwo months later.

The spring sun was warm and golden, casting long, peaceful shadows across the manicured lawns of Dante’s estate.

I sat on the wooden deck overlooking the river, sipping a cup of hot chamomile tea. The scars on my face had completely healed, and the ache in my ribs was nothing more than a faint memory.

The trial of Julian Vance had lasted exactly three days. With Elena acting as the special prosecutor backed by federal racketeering charges, Julian was sentenced to life in a maximum-security federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole. The remnants of his street muscle were rounded up and dismantled in a single weekend.

The heavy oak door of the deck opened, and footsteps approached behind me.

A warm, heavy wool jacket was draped gently over my shoulders.

I looked up to see Dante standing beside me. He wore a crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled up, the harsh, untouchable aura of the syndicate boss replaced by a quiet, grounded calm.

He pulled up a chair and sat down right beside me, resting his elbows on the wooden railing.

“You’re working too late again, Harper,” Dante said softly, a faint, teasing smile playing on his lips. “The doctors said no spreadsheets for at least another month.”

“I’m not working on spreadsheets,” I smiled, closing the leather-bound ledger on my lap. “I’m reviewing the foundation restructuring for the downtown community centers we’re funding with the seized assets from Julian’s accounts.”

Dante reached out, his warm fingers brushing against mine. He turned my hand over, his thumb gently tracing the place where my knuckles had been bruised during the alley attack months ago.

“You saved my life at Pier 42,” Dante murmured, his dark eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made my breath catch. “You walked right into a war zone just to give me the structural blueprints of that warehouse.”

“You would have done the same for me,” I replied softly.

“I would have burned the city to the ground for you,” Dante corrected without a single trace of hesitation.

He shifted closer, sliding his hand up to cup my cheek, his touch tender and fiercely protective.

“I spent ten years believing that to survive in my world, I had to keep everyone at a distance—that building walls was the only way to stay safe,” Dante whispered, leaning in slowly. “I was wrong. You didn't just break through my walls, Harper. You became my home.”

When his lips met mine, the last lingering ghosts of the past finally faded away into the morning light.

The war was over. The crown was secure. And as I held onto the man who ruled the dark, I knew I would never have to walk alone in the shadows again.
