Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 10:00 A.M. the following morning, the soaring mahogany assembly hall atop the forty-story Chicago Financial Center was packed to absolute capacity.

Over four hundred prominent real estate magnates, commercial logistics directors, municipal judges, and syndicate capos gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the annual Marchetti Logistics Assembly.

Sitting at the head of the raised executive table, wearing a dark velvet designer suit, holding a silver pen, was thirty-five-year-old Ava Marchetti. Beside her sat her corrupt corporate legal counsel, Richard Sterling-Smith, smirking as they prepared to sign corporate papers that would dissolve Elena’s trust rights and transfer the shipping berths to Ava's offshore shell.

"Gentlemen!" Ava announced smoothly into the central microphone, her voice dripping with false authority, "today we ratify the administrative consolidation of the Marchetti Logistics Berths under my sole proxy, permanently retiring the spousal claims of the former—"

BOOM!

The heavy double oak doors of the executive assembly hall were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!

The chatter of four hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.

Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Nico Marchetti.

I wore a dark bespoke charcoal suit, my broad six-foot-four frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.

And walking right beside me, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her graceful figure, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, her hand resting gently over her sixteen-week pregnant belly, her hazel eyes burning with absolute, sovereign victory... was Donna Elena Brooks-Marchetti.

She wore her ten-carat emerald signet ring proudly on her finger, her posture regal, her presence dominating the entire room.

Richard Sterling-Smith dropped his silver pen.

CRASH!

The heavy pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as his face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Ava Marchetti stood up so fast she knocked her leather chair backward against the wall.

"A-AVA...?! NICO?! ELENA?!" Richard stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the window. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! SHE DIVORCED YOU THREE MONTHS AGO!"

"She didn't divorce my heart, Richard," I announced flatly, my clear, deep baritone carrying cleanly across the silent hall, dropping the room's temperature to zero. "And she owns your entire life."

Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Ava Marchetti’s trembling hands:

TOTAL MARITIME RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Marchetti Trust Deeds, transferring fifty-one percent controlling common stock equity directly to Chairwoman Elena Brooks-Marchetti and her unborn heir.

ARREST WARRANTS: International arrest warrants served on Ava Marchetti and Richard Sterling-Smith for Attempted Premeditated Murder, Attempted Fetal Homicide, Frame-Up Extortion, and $300 Million Wire Fraud.

IMMEDIATE EVICTION: Total forfeiture of all personal properties, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts registered under Ava Marchetti’s shell companies.

"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Ava shrieked, thrashing wildly as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "NICO, I AM YOUR SISTER! YOU CAN'T SEIZE MY COMPANY FOR A WOMAN YOU DROPPED!"

"I didn't drop her, Ava," I corrected deadpan, stepping beside Elena, wrapping my broad, warm arm securely around her waist, pulling her frame flush against my side. "I was blind. But today, my wife takes her throne."

Ava Marchetti and Richard Sterling-Smith thrashed and wept hysterical, groveling pleas as marshals locked heavy steel cuffs around their wrists behind their backs, dragging them out of the Chicago Financial Center in total, public disgrace, while news cameras captured their complete downfall for the morning news.
