Chapter 7 - The Final Sunrise

The morning sun crested over the horizon of the Greenwich estate, painting the sky in brilliant shades of amber, rose, and gold.

I stood on the master bedroom balcony—the very spot where Emily used to stand late at night, watching the stars and praying for a way out—holding a sleeping Lily safely against my chest.

The wind blew softly, rustling the leaves of the cherry blossom tree below.

For a long time, I had looked back at that rainy funeral day with a heart full of heavy, suffocating grief, remembering the smug smile of the mistress and the arrogant swagger of a man who believed he had won the game. But looking out at the bright, open horizon now, I realized that day wasn't the end of Emily’s story. It was the prologue to her victory.

She had protected her family. She had exposed the corruption that threatened to consume us. And she had ensured that her daughter would grow up in a world where truth matters, where abusers find no shelter, and where love is defined not by how much you endure, but by how fiercely you fight for what is right.

Michael stepped out onto the balcony, wrapping a warm woolen shawl around my shoulders and pulling us both close against his side.

“Ready for the day?” he asked softly.

I looked down at little Lily as she stirred in her sleep, letting out a soft, contented sigh before settling back against my heart.

“I’ve never been more ready,” I whispered.

I reached out, flicked the switch on the balcony wall, and turned off the amber porch light. The sun was fully up now, bathing the entire world in a brilliant, unshadowed dawn. The darkness was gone for good.
