Chapter 7 - The True FoundationSix months later, the autumn leaves of Rosewood Manor turned a brilliant shade of amber and crimson, casting a warm, golden glow across the expansive Hudson Valley estate.

There were no three hundred society guests this time. There were no flashing paparazzi cameras, no eighty-thousand-dollar arrangements of imported roses, and no hidden corporate espionage schemes waiting to unravel in the shadows.
Instead, the ceremony took place right inside the sunlit conservatory where Eleanor Prescott had once hurled her final insults. The glass roof filtered the afternoon light into a cathedral of natural warmth.
In the front row, sitting quietly in a small white chair, Sofi wore a beautiful little red dress with matching velvet shoes. In her lap, she carefully held Benny the rabbit, who had been fitted with a tiny matching red bow tie pinned securely around his neck by Lucia herself.
Julian Pearce stood proudly as the best man, holding two platinum bands resting inside a polished wooden box.
And standing at the makeshift altar beneath an arch woven from simple autumn leaves and wildflowers stood Alexander Ward and Lucia Herrera.
Alex wore a classic navy suit, but his face held none of the rigid, defensive tension that had defined him for a decade. He looked relaxed, completely present, and utterly at peace.
Lucia wore a simple, breathtaking gown of soft ivory lace—designed not by an expensive Parisian fashion house, but chosen together during a quiet weekend afternoon in the city. Her dark curls were half-pinned back, framing a face radiant with quiet, enduring joy.
An independent civil officiant smiled warmly as she guided them through their vows.
"Alexander," the officiant spoke softly, "do you take Lucia to be your lawful wife, to walk with her through every season, to share your life, your heart, and your home, from this day forward?"
Alex looked deep into Lucia’s dark, expressive eyes, remembering the first time she had opened the door to him in the east wing, remembering the quiet strength she had shown in the boardroom, and remembering the little girl who had saved him by shouting the truth.
"I do," Alex said, his voice steady, resonant, and filled with absolute certainty.
"Lucia," the officiant continued, "do you take Alexander to be your lawful husband, to stand by him through every storm, to build your home and your future together, from this day forward?"
Lucia smiled, a tear of pure happiness glistening on her lashes. "I do."
Julian stepped forward, opening the wooden box. Alex reached down, picked up the simpler of the two platinum bands, and gently, carefully, slid it onto Lucia’s finger.
As the ring settled into place, the private antique pocket watch ticking softly inside Alex’s breast pocket seemed to beat in perfect rhythm with the quiet joy filling the room.
Lucia then took the second ring, her fingers steady and warm, and slipped it onto Alex’s finger.
"I pronounce you husband and wife," the officiant announced gently. "You may kiss the bride."
Alex pulled Lucia into his arms, kissing her softly and deeply as a wave of heartfelt applause erupted from Julian, who was enthusiastically clapping from the front row.
Before they could pull away, a small pair of arms wrapped tightly around both of their legs.
"Can I kiss you too?" Sofi asked loudly, looking up with wide, beaming brown eyes.
May you like
Both Alex and Lucia laughed, dropping down to their knees together right there on the stone floor of the conservatory, pulling the little girl into a warm, unbreakable embrace.
Looking up toward the newly painted bay window of the main estate visible through the glass roof, a bright yellow sun beamed down from the nursery wall, illuminating a house that was no longer built on armor and secrets, but on honesty, courage, and true love.
