Chapter 1 - The Descent into Darkness and the Missing Gold KeyThe sudden plunging of the grand mansion into pitch blackness felt unnatural, as if the very air inside the estate had been sucked out by a vacuum.

Lily pulled little Ethan closer against her chest, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. In the dark, she could hear the frantic rustle of silk and the sharp click of high heels retreating across the floor.
"Serena!" Victor’s voice boomed through the darkness, cold, sharp, and laced with sudden panic. "Turn on the auxiliary power! Where did she go?"
Before anyone could move, the automated backup generators kicked in with a low, mechanical hum. The emergency lighting flickered to life, casting a sickly, amber-toned hue across the marble floor.
Serena was gone.
The spot where she had been standing seconds earlier—cornered, exposed by her own recorded voice confessing to the plot against the trust fund—was completely empty. The heavy double front doors were latched from the inside, meaning she hadn't escaped outside.
Instead, resting right in the center of the amber-lit foyer, where Serena’s feet had just been planted, lay a small, heavy object that caught the dim emergency light with a dull, metallic glint.
Lily crawled forward on her knees, shielding Ethan with one arm, and reached out. Her trembling fingers brushed against cold metal. It was an antique gold key, ornate, heavy, and tarnished with age. The bow of the key was shaped like a weeping willow leaf—a design Lily recognized instantly from whispered household rumors.
"That's..." Victor whispered, his face turning the color of ash as he stared down at the key in Lily's hand. "That's impossible."
"What is it, Mr. Sterling?" Lily asked, her breath catching in her throat as she stood up, keeping Ethan safely tucked behind her.
Victor didn't answer immediately. He slowly raised his head, his eyes fixed on the far end of the eastern corridor, past the grand staircase, toward the forbidden wing of the estate.

"The east wing," Victor muttered, his voice trembling slightly. "The room that has been locked and sealed since the day my first wife, Elena, died."
The mystery of Serena's disappearance suddenly took a terrifying backseat to the nightmare waiting behind that sealed door. Serena hadn't fled the house; she had gone to the one place nobody dared to enter, using a duplicate key she had somehow acquired. And as Victor and Lily began walking down the cold, silent hallway toward the forbidden door, they realized that whatever secrets Elena had taken to her grave were about to be dragged violently back into the light.
