Chapter 3 - The Untouchable HeirBy Monday morning, the financial collapse of Ethan Walker wasn't just a corporate rumor; it was front-page news across every major West Coast business journal and tabloid.

THE STERLING LEGACY STRIKES BACK: HOW A PREGNANT BRIDE OUTSMARTED WALL STREET.

Inside my penthouse office—the very residence Ethan had been legally evicted from forty-eight hours prior—the morning light streamed through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows, illuminating the sprawling view of Elliott Bay. I sat comfortably in a plush velvet armchair, wearing a loose cashmere sweater that accommodated my growing belly, sipping warm lemon water while reviewing the daily asset reports.

The phone on my desk buzzed softly. It was Jonathan.

"Olivia, you need to see the latest filings," Jonathan’s voice came through the speaker, carrying a tone of amused disbelief. "Ethan’s legal team just tried to file an emergency injunction claiming duress during the divorce proceedings. The judge didn't even let them finish their opening statement. Tossed it out in under three minutes."

"And Madison?" I asked calmly, watching a ferry glide across the gray water below.

"Gone," Jonathan chuckled. "She packed her designer bags and checked out of the downtown hotel suite by Sunday night. Her lawyer already filed for an annulment based on fraudulent misrepresentation of assets. Apparently, she didn't sign up to be married to a man facing federal wire fraud audits and personal bankruptcy."

I smiled faintly, tracing the rim of my mug with my thumb.

Madison had spent years coveting my life, meticulously studying every luxury I possessed, convinced that if she simply stripped Ethan away from me, she would inherit the kingdom. She never understood a fundamental truth of wealth and power: true strength isn't something you steal by sleeping with another woman's husband. It is something you inherit, protect, and wield with absolute precision.

A soft knock sounded at the door, and my mother walked into the room, carrying a fresh plate of sliced fruit. She set it down on the coffee table and looked at me with a mixture of profound relief and maternal pride.

"How are you feeling, sweetie?" she asked, resting a gentle hand on my shoulder. "Are you holding up okay with all the media circus outside?"

"I've never felt calmer, Mom," I replied, looking up to meet her eyes. "For seven years, I let myself believe that keeping the peace meant shrinking into the background. I thought loyalty meant enduring humiliation. But watching them stand outside that courthouse on Friday... something inside me finally settled. They didn't destroy me. They gave me the exact excuse I needed to clean house."

"Your grandfather would have been so proud of you," my mother whispered, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. "He always knew you had the Sterling steel in your spine. He just waited for you to realize it yourself."

Just then, a sharp, frantic buzzing interrupted our conversation. It was the intercom connected to the private lobby downstairs.

"Mrs. Walker?" the building security manager’s voice crackled through the speaker, sounding deeply apologetic. "I'm sorry to disturb you, but... Mr. Ethan Walker is downstairs in the lobby. He’s demanding access to the penthouse. He says he needs to speak with you personally before he talks to federal investigators."

My mother stiffened, her face hardening instantly. "Tell security to throw him out on the street where he belongs."

I raised a hand gently, stopping her. A slow, cold smile touched the corners of my lips.

"No, security," I instructed clearly into the intercom. "Escort him up to the private foyer. I want to see him."
