Chapter 7 - Dawn Over the EstateThree months later.

The morning sun broke over the Rossi estate, painting the rolling hills and manicured lawns in brilliant shades of gold and amber. The oppressive, cold shadow that had hung over the mansion for decades seemed to have finally lifted, replaced by the soft, domestic sounds of life starting anew.

I stood on the wide stone balcony outside our master bedroom, holding a cup of black coffee in one hand while watching the morning breeze rustle through the garden trees below.

The west wing had been gutted. Every trace of the concrete cell, the iron bars, and the bolted hospital bed had been demolished, replaced by an open-air sunroom filled with flowers, sunlight, and life.

Inside the bedroom, the soft, gurgling laughter of our son floated out through the open French doors.

I turned around and walked back inside. Grace was sitting on the edge of the large king-size bed, wearing a soft cream-colored sweater, tickling our baby’s tummy as he kicked his little legs in delight. She looked healthier, stronger, her skin glowing with a natural radiance that no darkness could ever extinguish.

She looked up as I approached, a warm, genuine smile curving her lips.

“You’re up early,” she noted softly, reaching out to take my free hand.

“I had things to check on,” I murmured, sitting down beside her on the mattress and pulling her close, resting my forehead against hers. “How are you feeling today?”

“I feel like I’m finally home,” she whispered, leaning into my touch.

As for my mother, she was currently residing in a high-security private estate in northern Italy, cut off from the syndicate, stripped of her authority, and surrounded by guards who answered only to my direct commands. She would never threaten our family again.

The dark days of our past were buried deep, locked away behind walls we had torn down with our own hands.

“Come on,” I smiled, lifting our giggling son into my arms and pressing a kiss to his cheek before looking down at my wife. “Breakfast is waiting downstairs. And this time, no one is going to interrupt us.”

Grace stood up, taking my hand, and together we walked out of the bedroom and into the bright, unshadowed light of our new future.
