Chapter 5 - Confession in the StudyI closed the heavy study door behind us with a solid, definitive thud, locking the deadbolt with a sharp, echoing snap.

Patricia whirled around to face me, her haughty composure completely shattered, her chest heaving as panic finally broke through her aristocratic facade.

"Have you lost your mind?!" Patricia shrieked, her voice cracking. "Dragging me in here like a criminal in front of the servants and the children! What kind of game are you playing, Ethan?"

I didn't answer immediately. I walked slowly across the room, past the rows of leather-bound books, straight to my executive desk. I didn't sit down. I picked up my iPad, tapped the screen twice, and hit play.

“...Once Clara is gone, I control the girls' trust allocation access through the trustee proxy signature. Just hold on a little longer... yes... transfer the remaining forty thousand to the Cayman account by Friday or I walk.”

Patricia’s recorded voice bounced off the walnut bookshelves, crystal clear, undeniable, and damning.

The color drained entirely from Patricia’s face. She staggered backward, her hip bumping against the edge of the reading table as she stared at the iPad in my hand as if it were a venomous snake.

"Where... where did you get that?" she whispered, her voice trembling violently.

"You thought you were the only smart person in this house, Patricia," I said quietly, stepping around the desk and closing the distance between us until she had nowhere left to run. "You thought because I was focused on running my companies, I wouldn't notice someone bleeding my family dry from the inside out. You used my late wife’s memory as a weapon. You terrorized my daughters' emotional stability just to isolate them so you could steal their trust fund."

"It’s not... it’s not what it looks like!" Patricia stammered, raising her hands defensively, her voice turning shrill. "I was just trying to protect them! You’re an absent father, Ethan! You don't know the first thing about raising little girls! If I hadn't stepped in, they would have been ruined by people like Clara—people of no background, no standing—"

"Shut your mouth," I snarled, the raw fury finally breaking through my control.

I reached out and grabbed her by the lapel of her designer dress, lifting her slightly off her feet with a surge of raw, physical strength that made her gasp in absolute terror.

"If you ever speak Clara’s name with venom in your mouth again," I whispered close to her ear, my voice trembling with suppressed rage, "I won't just hand these recordings over to the federal prosecutor. I will ensure that every single asset you own, every social circle you cling to, and every dollar you think you’re entitled to is systematically stripped away until you are begging on the streets of Houston. Do you understand me?"

Patricia sobbed, tears spilling down her cheeks as she nodded frantically, unable to form words.

I shoved her back against the table. She stumbled, catching herself on the edge, gasping for air.

"Pack your bags tonight," I said coldly, walking over to the intercom on the wall and pressing the master toggle. "Luke? Bring two security guards to the main study. Escort Miss Hale off the property. Ensure every electronic device, document, and key in her possession is surrendered immediately. If she so much as touches a gate handle after midnight, remove her by force."

“On my way, boss,” Luke’s voice crackled through the speaker.

Patricia crumpled to the floor, weeping hysterically, realizing that her multi-month conspiracy had completely unraveled in less than forty-eight hours.

I didn't look down at her as the heavy study doors burst open and Luke and his men rushed in. I simply turned my back, walked over to the window, and stared out into the sprawling Houston night.
