Chapter 7 - A New HorizonSix months later, the spring sun over Chicago was warm, bright, and completely unobstructed by the heavy grey clouds of winter.

I stood on the expansive stone balcony of my newly renovated penthouse overlooking Lake Michigan, holding a cup of fresh black coffee. The gentle morning breeze caught the hem of my silk wrap dress, carrying the scent of blooming magnolia trees from the park below.
My phone buzzed on the iron patio table.
I picked it up. It was a notification from Marcus Sterling regarding the final corporate restructuring of Vance Corporate Enterprises. Our new real estate division had just secured the primary development contracts for the downtown waterfront district—the exact project Mason’s company had lost months ago.
I tapped the screen, approved the digital signature, and locked the phone.
My life no longer revolved around waiting for a man who didn't care to come home. There were no midnight dinners left to warm, no polite social performances to choreograph, and no hidden syndicate secrets to sanitize.
For the first time in my life, my name was my own, my success was my own, and my future was entirely unburdened.
A soft knock echoed from the penthouse doorway.
“Ms. Vance?” my executive assistant called out gently as she stepped onto the terrace with a stack of morning briefs. “The city planning committee is on line one. They’re ready to review the architectural blueprints for the new community foundation center.”
I turned away from the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan, a genuine, radiant smile touching my lips.

“Put them through,” I said.
And as I walked back inside into the brilliant morning sunlight, I knew with absolute certainty that the best chapter of my life was only just beginning.
