Chapter 6 - The Fall of the Empire"Dante Romano," Special Agent Vance announced, flashing a federal badge as he walked down the center aisle flanked by half a dozen armed agents. "You are being placed under arrest for wire fraud, money laundering, judicial bribery, and violations of the RICO Act."

The ballroom erupted into pure, unadulterated panic.
Screams echoed off the crystal chandeliers. Investors scrambled backward, knocking over wine glasses and silver candelabras. Journalists from the financial press, who had somehow received an anonymous press advisory twenty minutes before the gala began, flooded through the service doors with cameras flashing like lightning storms.
"This is a setup!" Brooke screamed, clutching her diamond necklace as her mother began hyperventilating at the head table. "Arrest her! Arrest that woman, she hacked our systems!"
"Actually, Mrs. Romano-to-be," Agent Vance said smoothly, stopping in front of me and giving me a respectful nod, "Miss Carter didn't hack anything. She legally downloaded, verified, and submitted these financial records as a whistleblower under the SEC and DOJ federal protection acts three days ago. We've been building the case on her evidence for seventy-two hours."
Dante stood frozen in the center of the stage. He didn't run. He didn't try to fight the agents who stepped up to his sides and clicked heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists. He simply turned his head, looking past the flashing camera lights, past the panicking politicians, straight at me.
"You planned this," Dante said quietly, his voice hollow as the steel cuffs locked into place. "From the moment you walked into my office three years ago... you weren't just looking for a job."
"I was looking for justice, Dante," I said, my voice steady, my head held high, the birthmark catching the white glare of a dozen news cameras. "You built an empire on blood, fear, and stolen money. You thought you could dismiss me, insult me, and hide behind your society fiancée because of how I look. But you forgot one fundamental rule of business."
I stepped closer, looking the most feared man in Manhattan straight in the eye.
"Never underestimate someone who has nothing left to hide."

As federal agents led Dante Romano out of the grand ballroom in handcuffs—surrounded by flashing cameras, shouting reporters, and fleeing politicians—Brooke Sinclair collapsed weeping into a chair, completely abandoned by the high-society friends who had fawned over her twenty minutes earlier.
The three hundred elite guests didn't rise to their feet to applaud me out of admiration; they rose in absolute, trembling terror, realizing that the quiet woman with the birthmark had just dismantled their entire world before dessert was even served.
