Chapter 7 - The Final VowThe night air on the Drake Hotel terrace was crisp and smelled of autumn and lake water. Below us, the city lights of Chicago stretched out toward the horizon like a million glowing diamonds, a sprawling empire ruled by shadows, power, and survival.

Olivia leaned against the stone balustrade, resting her forearms on the edge as she looked out over the dark, rolling waves of Lake Michigan. The heavy crimson gown cascaded behind her like a royal banner.
I stepped up behind her, wrapping my arms gently around her waist, pulling her back against my chest. She didn't flinch. She didn't tense. She simply leaned into my embrace, letting out a long, shuddering breath of pure, unadulterated relief.
"Well," I murmured against her hair, smiling faintly. "I think that officially concludes our social debut."
"My mother will never speak to me again," Olivia said, though there was no sadness in her tone—only freedom.
"Good," I replied. "You don't need her family. You have mine now."
She turned around in my arms, wrapping her hands around my neck, looking up into my eyes under the dim terrace lanterns. The moonlight caught the bright blue depths of her gaze, free of the terror that had haunted her on our wedding night.
"When you first lifted my veil," Olivia whispered, her voice thick with emotion, "I thought I was just trading one cage for another. I thought every man was just waiting for an excuse to break me."
I reached up, gently tracing the smooth skin of her shoulder where the bruises had once been, feeling the healthy warmth beneath the fabric.
"You were never a prisoner here, Olivia," I said softly, my voice filled with a fierce, unwavering vow. "You were the missing piece I didn't know I was searching for. From the moment I saw those bruises, my entire life changed. Everything I own, everything I fight for, belongs to you."
She smiled—a genuine, radiant smile that finally reached her eyes, lighting up her entire face in a way the wedding photographers had only tried to fake.
"Then prove it," she whispered playfully.
"How?"
"Take me home, Kyle."
I pulled her closer, pressing my lips to hers in a slow, deep kiss that sealed not just a political marriage, but a partnership carved in absolute devotion.

We left the glittering ballroom behind, walking side-by-side through the grand doors into the cool Chicago night. The empire outside was vast and dangerous, full of enemies waiting in the dark. But as I held my wife’s hand in mine, I knew one thing with absolute certainty:
No matter what storms came our way, we were untouchable.
