Chapter 4 - The Spider’s WebWhile Lorenzo prepared for war within the walls of the master suite, Elena Rossi sat in her private study on the ground floor of the estate, swirling a glass of aged amber scotch.

The storm outside lashed against the reinforced glass windows, but inside, the room was warm, quiet, and smelled of polished mahogany and expensive cigar smoke.
The heavy oak door swung open without a knock.
Vance, the head of household security and Elena’s most ruthless enforcer, stepped into the room. His face was set in a hard, grim line, a bandage plastered over his left cheek where Lorenzo had struck him earlier in the corridor.
“He’s preparing to move, Madame,” Vance reported, standing at rigid attention before her desk. “Our scouts in the west wing report that Mr. Lorenzo has accessed the armory. He’s taking tactical gear, encrypted comms, and the heavy transport vehicles. He knows about the Sanctuary.”
Elena didn’t flinch. She took a slow, deliberate sip of her scotch, the amber liquid burning her throat before she lowered the crystal glass back onto the coaster with a sharp clink.
“Of course he knows,” Elena said, her voice dripping with cold amusement. “My son is many things, Vance, but he is not a fool. He inherited my intuition. He knew the moment he saw that empty crib that the trail would lead straight to the mountains.”
“Then why let him go?” Vance asked, his brow furrowing in confusion. “If he reaches the Sanctuary, he’ll slaughter our guards. He has the entire enforcement division loyal to him by blood oath. We can’t stop him at the gates.”
“Who said anything about stopping him at the gates?” Elena smiled, a thin, cruel expression that didn't reach her dead eyes. “For six months, I have watched Lorenzo grow soft. He spent too much time playing diplomat in Europe, trying to civilize a world that only respects raw power. He thinks his little wife is a saint, and he thinks reclaiming his son will heal this broken family.”
Elena stood up gracefully from her high-backed leather chair, walking over to the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves. She pressed her finger against a carved wooden paneling seam, and a hidden compartment clicked open, revealing a glowing red master control terminal.
“Let him break into the Sanctuary, Vance,” Elena instructed softly, her fingers flying across the digital interface. “Let him fight his way through every corridor, let him tear down the security doors with his bare hands, and let him walk straight into the nursery where his precious son is sleeping.”
Vance stared at her, slowly beginning to understand the terrifying scope of her plan. “You’ve set a trap.”
“I’ve set a tomb,” Elena corrected smoothly. “The Sanctuary’s underground lower levels are rigged with an independent methane and structural demolition grid, controlled entirely from this terminal. The moment Lorenzo reaches the infant and attempts to extract him, the biometric lockdown engages. The exits seal permanently. No explosives required—just a simple, airtight vault that will bury my disobedient son and his pathetic, fragile wife’s memory one hundred feet beneath the mountain granite.”
Vance swallowed hard, a cold sweat breaking out across his forehead. Even for the Rossi syndicate, this was a level of cold-blooded matricide that crossed every boundary. “And the child, Madame? The heir?”
“The child remains safely in my custody, relocated to a secure secondary facility thirty minutes before Lorenzo arrives,” Elena replied without a shred of hesitation. “A true Rossi heir does not need sentimental attachments. He needs a dynasty. And my son has proven himself unworthy of carrying it forward.”

Elena turned back from the terminal, her eyes gleaming with fanatical obsession.
“Let him ride into the mountains, Vance,” she whispered, raising her glass in a silent toast to the storm raging outside. “He’s walking straight into the spider’s web. And by dawn, the Rossi family will have a new master—one who actually understands what loyalty means.”
