Chapter 4 - The War Room on Astor StreetBy 10:00 a.m., the grand library of the Astor Street mansion looked like a military command center.

The antique Persian rug was littered with open laptops, encrypted satellite phones, and crumpled security reports. Marcus stood stiffly by the fireplace, while Daniel Park—the slick, expensive lawyer whose loose tongue had started the fire—paced nervously across the hardwood floor, sweating through his custom Italian suit.

At the center of it all sat Elias Kwon.

He hadn't shaved. His shirt cuffs were unbuttoned, his sleeves rolled up to reveal thick, corded forearms bearing faint scars from a violent past he usually kept hidden behind bespoke tailoring. He looked less like a corporate titan and more like a caged tiger smelling blood in the air.

"Tell me again," Elias said, his voice dangerously low, almost a whisper. "And make sure you don't miss a single word."

Daniel swallowed hard, adjusting his tie. "E-Elias... I swear to God, I had no idea she was listening. When we were at Halstead House last night... I just asked a stupid question. Banter! Standard lawyer banter!"

"Banter," Elias repeated. The word sounded like a death sentence. He slowly stood up from his leather armchair, towering over Daniel. "My wife heard you imply that she meant nothing to me. She walked out of that room, cleaned out forty-two million dollars of our generational liquidity, and walked straight into the arms of Victor Vance."

"Victor Vance?!" Daniel choked out, his eyes widening in horror. "Vance is an absolute shark! If he has her—and has our capital—he can short our shipping lines, choke our supply chain, and buy out half the city council before the end of the quarter!"

"I am well aware of what Victor can do," Elias snapped, his eyes flashing with lethal fury.

Marcus stepped forward, holding a secure tablet. "Boss, we tracked the digital handshake on the bank transfer. It bounced through three proxy servers in the Cayman Islands before landing in a shell company registered under a clean identity in Michigan. A property on the eastern shore of the lake. Owned by a holding trust controlled directly by Victor Vance."

Elias stared at the tablet screen. A satellite image of a sprawling, isolated stone estate surrounded by dense pine forests appeared.

"She's there," Elias whispered, a complex knot of rage, betrayal, and a sickening wrench of longing twisting deep inside his gut.

"What are our orders?" Marcus asked, his hand dropping naturally toward the concealed holster beneath his jacket. "Do we assemble a strike team? Do we hit the Michigan estate tonight, breach the property, and bring Mrs. Kwon home by force?"

For a second, Elias pictured it. Breaking through the doors, dragging her out of Victor’s house, forcing her back into the cage on Astor Street where she belonged.

Then he remembered the diamond ring sitting on his nightstand. He remembered the empty closet. He remembered the look in her eyes during the rare moments when she thought he wasn't watching—the look of a woman suffocating in slow motion.

If he went in guns blazing, he would prove every single thing she believed about him. He would prove that she was nothing more than property to be recaptured.

"No," Elias said coldly, his jaw tightening into a line of absolute steel. "We don't launch a raid."

Daniel blinked in confusion. "Then what do we do? Just let Vance keep our money and your wife?"

"My wife is playing a very dangerous game," Elias said, walking slowly toward the tall windows overlooking the snowy street. "She thinks she can outsmart me. She thinks she can wage war using my own grandfather's money."

He turned around, his eyes burning with a dark, terrifying intensity.

"We don't raid the estate. We choke them out. Freeze every secondary asset, cut off their supply lines into the city, and let Victor think he’s won the first battle. When Ava realizes that the man she ran to is just another monster wearing a better suit... she’ll learn why no one ever steals from a Kwon."
