Chapter 4 - The Freeze at Vance EnterprisesBy 2:00 PM that afternoon, while the criminal bail hearing was recessed for sentencing deliberation, the financial foundation of Vance Enterprises collapsed into total, absolute ruin.

Inside the thirty-story glass tower of Vance Enterprises in downtown Chicago, an emergency board of directors meeting had been convened in the top-floor executive suite.
Sixteen senior board members, bank directors, and international investors sat around a long mahogany table, shouting frantically over each other while reviewing emergency stock crash notifications.
The heavy double glass doors of the suite were pushed open.
Walking down the center aisle, flanked by Arthur Sterling, two federal marshals, and a court-appointed corporate receiver, was me.
I wore my cream wool coat, my dark hair neatly styled, my posture fluid, calm, and absolute.
The sixteen board members stood up instantly, bowing their heads in deep, quiet respect as I took my seat at the head of the mahogany table—the chairman’s seat that Julian had occupied for five years.
Arthur Sterling stepped forward, opening his binder, projecting certified corporate enforcement decrees onto the eighty-foot media wall.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Arthur announced cleanly, "as of one o'clock this afternoon, the Cook County Chancery Court has confirmed the full, unconditional execution of Mrs. Nora Vance’s primary corporate equity recovery."
The bank directors pulled out their tablets, reading the live court filings in shock.
"Prior to her marriage three years ago," Arthur explained smoothly, "Nora Vance owned fifty-one percent of the underlying patent licenses for Vance Enterprises’ core logistics software. Under Section 14 of the master charter, following the primary indictment of Julian Vance for felony assault, all executive voting proxies revert instantly and permanently to Mrs. Vance."
The board members looked at me, their faces filled with awe and immediate submission.
"Madam Chairman," the lead bank representative spoke up politely, "what are your orders regarding Mr. Vance’s private holdings?"
I looked at the panoramic window overlooking the sunlit skyline of Chicago, setting my hands flat against the mahogany table.
"Execute immediate liquidation of all corporate assets held under Julian Vance’s name," I commanded cleanly, my voice smooth, quiet, and deadpan. "Revoke his executive severance, terminate his legal defense funding from corporate accounts, and transfer forty million dollars into an irrevocable trust for my children."

The board members didn't hesitate. They picked up their pens, signing the master corporate restructuring decrees within two minutes.
Julian’s empire was erased. His money was gone. His legacy belonged entirely to the children he had tried to kill.
