Chapter 6 - The Memorial GalaIn late September 2026, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Columbus was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Mia Whitmore Foundation Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, medical specialists, and high-society figures gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.

Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a tailored charcoal tuxedo, was Marcus Vance. His broad six-foot-three frame was squared, his handsome face radiating an unshakeable, sovereign authority and a profound, radiant peace.

Beside him stood me, looking breathtaking in a floor-length dark emerald silk gown that celebrated my recovered, radiant figure. Around my neck hung the silver locket containing Mia's lock of hair.

Marcus adjusted the microphone, his deep baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:

"Eight months ago, I watched a remarkable woman endure the darkest night any mother could face," Marcus announced to the silent room, his dark eyes shining with deep, genuine pride as he looked at me. "And instead of letting the grief break her, she turned her pain into a beacon of hope, protection, and life for thousands of mothers across this state."

Marcus held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To Natalie!" the entire room erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
