Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeSix months after the morning the clock chimed in the courthouse, the warm spring sun broke brightly over the manicured green lawn of our suburban home.

The dark shadows of the estate trust were completely erased, the legal battles finished, and Clara Hope Bennett was officially, legally, and forever ours.
On a warm, clear Saturday afternoon in late May, our backyard was filled with the sound of laughter, popping balloons, and sweet music for Clara's six-month celebration.
Toby, Liam, and Noah ran through the green grass playing tag with their cousins, their bright, happy giggles echoing across the yard.
Sitting in a soft, white wicker stroller under the shade of an ancient oak tree, wearing a delicate yellow summer dress, holding a plush bunny rabbit, was six-month-old Clara. Her deep navy eyes had turned into a brilliant, sparkling hazel—the exact same color as mine.
I stood beside the stroller holding a glass of fresh lemonade, wearing a comfortable floral dress, looking out over our home with a deep, weightless peace settling into every corner of my soul.
James walked across the grass, wearing a plain dark linen shirt, stepping up behind me, wrapping his broad, warm arms around my waist, pulling my back flush against his chest.
He pressed a sweet, lingering kiss against the nape of my neck, his arms holding me tight.
"What are you thinking about, my love?" James whispered softly into my ear.
I turned in his arms, resting my hands against his broad chest, looking up into his clear gray eyes—eyes that held zero secrets, zero guilt, and an eternal, unbroken devotion.
"I was thinking about the Tuesday afternoon you called me to the hospital," I answered softly, a radiant smile touching my lips. "When I thought my heart was going to break."
James offered a rare, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, unadulterated love that lit up his features.
"You thought you were walking into a nightmare, Sarah," James promised, leaning down to press his lips softly against mine in a deep, sweet, unhurried kiss. "And you ended up giving our family its missing piece."
Noah ran up the stone path, holding a yellow dandelion, holding it up toward his baby sister.
"Look, Clara!" Noah giggled happily. "A flower for you!"
Clara let out a loud, sweet coo, reaching her small hands out to grab the flower, her bright giggles ringing like silver bells under the warm spring sky.
James and I held each other close, watching our four children play together in the golden sunlight.
There were no secrets locked in garage toolboxes. There were no tears swallowed over lost dreams. There were no dark shadows left unsaid.

The broken past was buried forever. The sovereign family had claimed its kingdom.
And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped in the arms of the man I loved, holding my daughter and sons close to my heart, I knew that our peace, our lives, and our home were finally, beautifully, and forever safe.
