Chapter 6 - The Festival of LightIn late September 2026, eight months after that freezing night outside the hospital, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Lily Maro Pediatric Foundation Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.

Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown that celebrated my tall, radiant figure, was me.

Around my neck hung my late mother Isabella's vintage diamond signet pendant, my dark hair falling in glossy waves over my shoulders, my hazel eyes burning with absolute, unshakeable victory, inner peace, and sovereign grace.

Beside the stage stood my father, Nicholas Maro, looking magnificent in a dark bespoke tuxedo, holding eight-month-old Lily in his broad arms. Lily wore a sweet white lace dress, her bright hazel eyes looking curiously around the glowing ballroom.

Beside them stood Margaret, Bridget Colton, and Marco Vance.

I adjusted the microphone, my clear, velvet baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:

"Eight months ago, I sat on a freezing sidewalk three days after giving birth, holding my baby girl in the dark, believing we were unwanted," I announced to the silent ballroom, my voice filled with deep, genuine pride. "And on that night, I learned that true royalty isn't given by a husband's title... it is found when you break the dark, claim your true bloodline, and build a kingdom for your child."

I held my champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To truth, resilience, and unbroken family!"

"To Ava and Lily!" the entire room erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
