Chapter 4 - The Showdown at Seven-FifteenOn Thursday morning at 7:00 A.M., the storm had passed, leaving New York City frozen beneath a crisp, clear winter sky.

In the subterranean private executive parking garage beneath Bennett Holdings on Wall Street, the air was dead silent.

At 7:10 A.M., a dark luxury sedan—Maxwell Bennett’s primary vehicle—pulled into the executive bay.

Standing near the elevator bank, wearing an expensive charcoal coat, holding a leather briefcase, was Marcus Vance. Beside him stood Dominic and four armed security operatives. Marcus checked his watch: 7:14 A.M.

A dark, greedy smile touched Marcus’s lips as he pulled a small remote detonator from his coat pocket.

"Goodbye, Maxwell," Marcus whispered smoothly, pressing the red arming switch.

CLICK.

Nothing happened.

The vehicle sat in the center of the garage, its engine idling quietly.

Marcus’s smile vanished. He pressed the button again. "What is wrong with the receiver?! Dominic, check the rear axle!"

"The receiver is working perfectly, Marcus," a deep, resonant baritone echoed from the darkness of the parking bay.

Every head in the garage whipped around.

Stepping out from behind the reinforced concrete pillars, flanked by twenty heavily armed tactical operators carrying suppressed rifles, was Maxwell Bennett.

Beside him walked me, wearing a sleek dark coat, my chin held high, holding ten-year-old Lily safely behind my shoulder.

Marcus Vance dropped the remote detonator.

The small plastic box shattered flat against the concrete floorboards as his face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Dominic stepped back, his hands shaking violently as he raised his palms into the air.

"M-Maxwell...?!" Marcus stammered, his voice cracking into a high, pathetic thread. "You... you were supposed to be in that car!"

"I was supposed to be dead, Marcus," Maxwell announced flatly, his voice falling like blocks of granite onto the cold floor. "So you could sign away my life’s work to a foreign cartel."

Bridget Colton stepped forward from behind Maxwell’s tactical team, sliding thick court-stamped legal notices flat into Marcus’s trembling hands:

IMMEDIATE EVICTION & TERMINATION: Complete revocation of all legal credentials, voting proxies, and corporate passes held by Marcus Vance across Bennett Holdings.

ASSET FORECLOSURE: Freezing of all offshore bank accounts and private real estate registered under Marcus Vance and Dominic.

CRIMINAL ARREST WARRANTS: Federal arrest warrants served on Marcus Vance for Attempted Premeditated Murder, Treason, Corporate Wire Fraud, and Racketeering.

"THIS IS A SET-UP!" Marcus screamed, thrashing as four uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "YOU CAN'T PROVE I RIGGED THAT CAR!"

"We don't need to prove it, Marcus," I spoke out, my clear, silver voice echoing cleanly across the quiet garage, dropping the temperature to zero. "My daughter translated your French phone call word for word for the Federal District Attorney two hours ago."

Marcus stared at ten-year-old Lily in utter, catatonic horror. The small girl he had dismissed as a clueless child had dismantled his multi-million-dollar conspiracy with four words of French vocabulary.

CLICK. CLICK.

Marcus Vance and Dominic thrashed and wept hysterical, groveling pleas as marshals locked steel handcuffs around their wrists behind their backs, dragging them out of Bennett Holdings in total, public disgrace, while news cameras captured their complete downfall for the morning news.
