Chapter 4 - The Boardroom ExecutionOne week later, twenty-one days after the surgery, the morning sun broke brightly over the glass skyscrapers of downtown.

Inside the top-floor executive boardroom of Whittaker Holdings, an emergency meeting of the board of directors had been convened.
Sixteen senior board members, bank representatives, and regional developers sat around a thirty-foot mahogany conference table, shouting frantically over each other while reviewing emergency news notifications regarding Richard Whittaker's federal indictment.
Sitting near the head of the table was Richard's former vice president, a arrogant man named Gregory Vance, who was trying frantically to draft a corporate takeover statement.
"Silence!" Gregory shouted, slamming his gold pen flat against the mahogany. "Richard Whittaker is incarcerated! As acting senior vice president, I move that we assume emergency management of all primary trust voting shares!"
BOOM!
The heavy double glass doors of the boardroom were thrown open.
Two uniformed corporate security officers cleared a wide path through the room.
Walking down the center aisle, wearing a tailored cream wool suit, her dark hair styled in glossy, commanding waves, her posture fluid, royal, and sovereign, was me.
Flanking me was Arthur Sterling, holding three leather binders of certified corporate deeds, along with Dr. Evans, who served as my official medical character witness.
The entire boardroom went dead, suffocatingly quiet.
Gregory Vance stood up so fast his leather chair knocked against the glass wall behind him. His jaw dropped open in total, horror-stricken shock as he stared at me.
"Claire...?!" Gregory stammered, his voice cracking into a high, pathetic pitch. "What... what are you doing here?! You're supposed to be in recovery!"
I didn't answer him. I walked straight to the head of the table—taking my seat in the master executive chair that my grandfather had occupied for thirty years.
Arthur Sterling stepped forward, opening his leather binder, dropping certified court-sealed trust registration decrees onto the mahogany table.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Arthur announced cleanly, his baritone echoing through the silent room. "I am Arthur Sterling, lead trustee of the Charles Whittaker Master Estate. As of eight o'clock this morning, Miss Claire Whittaker has officially assumed one hundred percent voting control, chair position, and sole ownership of Whittaker Holdings."
The sixteen board members gasped, pulling out their tablets frantically as they read the live state court filings.
Gregory Vance stumbled back against the glass wall, his hands catching the edge of the frame, his face completely drained of color. "This... this is impossible! Richard said she signed a power of attorney!"
"Richard is currently sitting in a federal holding cell awaiting trial for felony fraud and human trafficking, Mr. Vance," Arthur replied deadpan. "And Miss Whittaker's first official act as Chairwoman is your immediate termination for corporate complicity."
Two security guards stepped forward, grabbing Gregory Vance by his arms, dragging his groveling, shouting frame out through the glass doors.

I looked at the fifteen remaining board members calmly from the head of the table, holding my chin high, my posture absolute.
"Gentlemen," I announced smoothly, my voice ringing clear and crisp through the room. "Whittaker Holdings is under new management. Let's get to work."
