Chapter 6 - The Siege of Room 318The intensive care wing of St. Raphael's was surrounded by security guards in red-and-gold uniforms—the colors of Vance Enterprises.

Victoria Vance stood in the center of the hallway, flanked by three lawyers in expensive grey suits and a man holding a clipboard who looked like a hospital administrator.
"This is a private facility, Victoria," Adrian’s voice echoed down the hallway, cold and commanding, as we stepped out of the elevator. He was wearing his black gloves again, his posture straight and regal. "Remove your men before I have them arrested for corporate espionage."
Victoria turned, a cold, triumphant smile spreading across her face. "Ah, Adrian. I'm glad you could make it. But you're too late. Under the bylaws of the Park Meridian-Vance merger, any single-transaction expenditure over two hundred thousand dollars requires dual-shareholder approval. You used corporate funds to pay for this... cleaning woman's grandmother. That constitutes a breach of fiduciary duty."
She gestured to the lawyer with the clipboard.
"The board has voted to freeze the payment pending an audit. St. Raphael's has no choice but to discharge the patient. She is being transferred to the Southside General Ward as we speak."
"She will die if you move her!" I screamed, trying to push past the guards. One of them grabbed my arm, his grip rough and aggressive.
"Get your hands off her!" Adrian roared.
He didn't wait for his security guards. He lunged forward, grabbing the guard's wrist with his gloved hand. But the guard was large, and in the struggle, Adrian's glove was ripped off, exposing his bare skin to the guard's rough, sweaty arm.
Adrian let out a choked groan, his face contorting in agony as the physical fire of the contact flooded his system. He fell to his knees, his breathing stopping once more.
"Adrian!" Victoria gasped, stepping back in horror. "What is wrong with him?"
I didn't care about the lawyers or the guards. I threw myself onto the floor, pulling Adrian's bare hand into mine.
The warmth flared, bright and powerful, cutting through his agony like a knife through darkness. Adrian gasped, his lungs filling with air as he gripped my hand with a desperate, life-saving strength.
He stood up, using my shoulder for support, his eyes locking onto Victoria with a fury that made her take three steps back.
"The merger is off, Victoria," Adrian said, his voice carrying a quiet, lethal resonance that chilled the entire hallway. "As of 10:00 PM tonight, I have acquired sixty percent of Vance Enterprises' outstanding debt through my secondary offshore holdings. You don't own my company. I own yours."
Victoria's face drained of all color. "What? That's impossible! You don't have the liquidity!"
"I do when I liquidate my personal real estate portfolio," Adrian said, his hand still holding mine, his grip tight and warm. "I sold the Lincoln Park penthouse this afternoon. I don't need a fortress anymore, Victoria. I have found my home."
He looked at the hospital administrator. "The payment for Beatrice Coleman is now paid from my personal, audited trust. If any of your staff attempts to move her, I will buy this hospital tomorrow morning and fire everyone in this room."
The administrator turned pale, clutching his clipboard to his chest. "Yes, Mr. Park. Of course. The patient will remain in the VIP wing indefinitely."

Victoria stared at us, her eyes darting to our interlocked hands. She knew she had lost. She knew her empire, her future, and her pride had been dismantled by the very cleaning girl she had tried to crush.
She turned on her heels and marched down the hallway, her lawyers scurrying behind her like frightened rats.
