Chapter 7 - The Feast of Eternal PromisesSix months later.

The city had changed. With Salvatore Moretti gone and the traitors purged from the syndicate, Dominic Romano had consolidated his power, bringing an unprecedented era of peace and stability to the city’s business district.

And L’Etoile—the restaurant where I had once been an invisible waitress—had undergone a complete transformation.

The cold, pretentious menu was gone. In its place was a warm, vibrant Italian-Sicilian menu designed entirely by me. The restaurant was renamed Maria’s—in honor of my grandmother and Dominic’s mother. It was now the most famous culinary destination on the East Coast, with reservations booked six months in advance.

On a warm Friday evening, the restaurant was filled with the rich aromas of roasted garlic, fresh basil, toasted spices, and laughter.

I stood in the center of the bustling, modern kitchen wearing a pristine white head chef’s jacket with Evelyn Hart-Romano embroidered in gold thread over my heart.

"Order up! Table four needs two plates of the sea bass and one Caldo de Res!" I called out authoritatively.

"Yes, Chef!" the sous-chefs echoed in unison, moving with flawless precision around the gleaming stoves.

I smiled, tasting a spoonful of tomato sauce before stepping out of the kitchen doors into the main dining room.

The restaurant was packed with happy guests. But my eyes immediately sought out the private corner booth near the window.

Sitting there, wearing a crisp dark suit, was Dominic.

He wasn't checking his encrypted phone. He wasn't surrounded by armed bodyguards. He was simply sitting back, sipping a glass of fine Chianti, watching me with a look of boundless pride and overwhelming love.

I walked over to his table, sliding into the booth beside him.

Dominic immediately put his arm around my shoulders, pulling me close and kissing the top of my head.

"How is the kitchen running, my brilliant wife?" he asked gently, his deep voice sending pleasant shivers down my spine.

"Flawlessly," I smiled, resting my hand on his leg, feeling the heavy gold wedding band on my finger glow under the warm restaurant lights. "Although the head chef is taking a quick break to eat with her favorite customer."

Dominic chuckled, reaching into his jacket and pulling out a small hand-written menu card. "I took the liberty of pre-ordering for us tonight."

I looked at the card. Written in his elegant handwriting was a single dish:

Forbidden Sicilian Broth – Made with love, courage, and an everlasting promise.

I looked up into his dark, beautiful eyes, remembering the night we first met in that cold elevator—the night I risked my career and my life to serve a forbidden dish to a feared mafia boss.

"You know," I murmured, leaning in until our lips were inches apart, "serving you that soup was the most dangerous thing I've ever done."

Dominic smiled—a genuine, radiant smile that warmed his entire face—and pressed his lips softly against mine.

"And it was the best thing that ever happened to me," Dominic whispered back against my lips. "To us, Evelyn. Forever."

As the sounds of music, clinking champagne glasses, and joyful chatter filled the room, I kissed my husband back, knowing that out of fear and darkness, we had built a taste of pure, indestructible paradise.
