Chapter 6 - The Rebirth of the KingSpring returned to New York City, washing away the dirty snow and filling Central Park with blooming cherry blossoms.

The Walker syndicate underwent a massive, quiet transformation over the next two years.
I didn't step down from my throne, but I rebuilt its foundation. I systematically shut down our high-risk illegal enterprises, transitioning our capital into legitimate international maritime logistics, clean energy infrastructure, and art conservation trusts.
The men who followed me no longer saw a ruthless tyrant fueled by paranoia and greed. They saw a quiet, formidable leader who ruled with absolute fairness, unshakeable discipline, and an iron commitment to protecting those under his mantle.
I never took another mistress. I never stepped foot inside a SoHo penthouse again.
Every month, a single report arrived at my private desk from an independent intelligence liaison in Maine. It contained no location data, no addresses, and no surveillance logs.
It contained only a single sentence:
She is well. She is safe. She is happy.
That was all I needed to survive.
On a warm Saturday afternoon in May, I walked through the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan, attending a private charity exhibition for young independent artists from across North America.
The grand hall was filled with sunlight filtering through the vaulted glass ceilings, illuminated by hundreds of breathtaking watercolor paintings, sculptures, and charcoal sketches.
I stood near the center archway, wearing a simple dark suit, holding a cup of black coffee, enjoying the quiet beauty of the room.
Then my eyes caught a large canvas hanging near the gallery’s main courtyard.
It was an oil painting—a sweeping, sunlit landscape of a stormy gray ocean crashing against granite cliffs, with a small cedar cottage sitting at the top of the rocks. Standing on the porch was a shadowy figure of a man looking out at the sea, holding a yellowed piece of paper in his hands.
Beneath the painting was a small brass plaque bearing the title:
"THE OPEN DOOR"
— By Anna Vance
My breath caught in my throat. My heart hammered against my ribs with a deep, weightless rhythm as I stepped closer to the canvas.

In the bottom right corner, hidden beneath the thick strokes of dark blue paint, were four small, handwritten words in fluid cursive:
Thank you for the truth.
