Chapter 7 - The Brightest DawnSix months later.

The spring sun bathed the sprawling Chicago estate in a warm, golden radiance, turning the manicured lawns and blooming rose gardens into a tranquil paradise. The ghosts of the past—the charred ashes, the freezing Boston alleyways, the terrifying gunshots in the foyer—felt like a lifetime away.
Inside the sunlit master nursery, painted a soft, soothing shade of cream and sage, I stood rocking a small, bundled package in my arms.
Soft cooing filled the quiet room.
A tiny hand, no larger than a rose petal, curled tightly around my index finger. Her eyes—bright, piercing, and unmistakably gray—stared up at me with profound curiosity.
“Hello, little one,” I whispered, tears of pure joy pricking at my lashes. “Say hi to Daddy.”
The heavy nursery door clicked open softly.
Dominic walked in, dressed in a casual charcoal button-down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms. The ruthless, untouchable mafia king of Chicago melted away the moment his eyes landed on the crib and the tiny bundle in my arms.
He walked over slowly, as if afraid a sudden movement might wake a dream. He reached out, his large, calloused fingers gently brushing against our daughter’s soft cheek.
“Elena,” Dominic murmured, his voice thick with emotion as he looked down at her. “Her name is Elena.”
“Elena Russo,” I smiled, leaning my head against his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around both of us, pulling us close against his chest.
He pressed a tender, lingering kiss to my lips, then kissed the top of our daughter’s head.
“The syndicate is officially restructured,” Dominic whispered softly, his gaze locking onto mine with fierce, unshakeable devotion. “No more shadows, Megan. No more secrets. My enemies are gone, and our future belongs to us.”

I looked down at the tiny baby girl in my arms, then up at the man who had burned down an empire just to keep us safe. The ashes I had scattered in a Chicago sink months ago were long gone, blown away by the wind. In their place had risen a love so fierce and absolute that nothing in this world could ever destroy it.
We had finally found our way home.
