Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeFour months after Gabriel's birth—on a clear, warm afternoon in late May—our family sat on the wide stone terrace behind our West Loop brownstone overlooking a private garden filled with blooming white roses.

The city of Chicago stretched out around us—a city that knew my name, a city that respected my power, but a city that no longer defined who I was.

I stood near the stone balustrade wearing an immaculate dark suit, holding my four-month-old son in my broad arms.

Beside me stood Sophia, wearing a breathtaking emerald silk dress that caught the spring sunlight like liquid gold. Around her neck rested a delicate solitaire diamond necklace—a gift I had given her on the morning we re-dedicated our marriage vows in a private chapel near the lake.

Leo walked out onto the terrace carrying a silver tray holding two glasses of fine champagne, setting them on the table before standing at attention.

"The Q2 shipping reports are clear, Don Rossi," Leo reported with a warm, respectful smile. "The South Side docks are operating at total capacity, and the Harbor Relief Fund has completed its new medical center in Englewood."

"Thank you, Leo," I said smoothly. "Take the evening off. Spend it with your family."

"Yes, Don Rossi," Leo bowed, stepping back through the glass doors.

I picked up a champagne glass, handing it to Sophia, before leaning down to press a sweet, lingering kiss against her lips.

Sophia smiled against my mouth, her hand coming up to touch my jawline, her thumb stroking my cheek.

"Four months ago, Dom," Sophia whispered softly, her hazel eyes sparkling under the blue sky, "you walked into a hospital carrying divorce papers."

I looked down into her eyes, then looked at our radiant, laughing son resting safely in my arms.

"Four months ago, sweet girl," I promised, my baritone thick with an absolute, unshakeable devotion, "I was a blind man walking through the dark. Today... I am home."

I pulled my wife and my son tight against my heart, looking out over the clear, unbroken horizon of our future.

There were no forged photos sitting in dark offices. There were no traitors whispering lies in my ear. There were no tears swallowed in empty bedrooms.

The broken past was buried forever. The sovereign family had claimed its kingdom.

And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, holding the woman I loved and the son who saved my life, I knew that our peace, our love, and our future were finally, beautifully, and forever safe.
