Chapter 6 - The Gala at the DrakeIn late September 2026, the grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago was packed to absolute capacity for the annual Voss-Reed Health & Civic Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, city officials, and healthcare workers gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing an magnificent charcoal bespoke tuxedo, was Julian Voss. His broad shoulders were squared, his severe, carved-marble face radiating an unshakeable, sovereign authority.
Beside him stood Marcus Vance and my nursing team from St. Catherine’s, all wearing formal evening attire.
Julian adjusted his microphone, his storm-gray eyes sweeping across the quiet room before settling on where I sat at the head table.
His deep, resonant voice carried cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Three months ago, a tired nurse climbed into my backseat by mistake," Julian announced with deep, genuine pride. "And she showed me that true strength isn't measured by power or fear... it is measured by healing, courage, and unbroken love."
Julian held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To Emma!" the entire room echoed in a warm, triumphant chorus, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
