Chapter 6 - Rebuilding the Broken(Focus: Garrett returns to Mave and Posie; the emotional healing process; legally establishing Mave as the sole co-owner of the Hail properties.)

Three months later.
The dark, cold rain of that fateful New York morning had long since been replaced by the warm, emerald embrace of late spring. I had permanently moved out of the TriBeCa penthouse and purchased a massive, beautiful estate on the coast of Rhode Island—a place surrounded by wide-open green fields, ancient stone walls, and the continuous, soothing sound of the Atlantic Ocean crashing against the cliffs.
The old world of dark alleyways and mafia turf wars was being systematically restructured. With the Ashfords gone and my mother permanently isolated, I had begun transforming the Hail syndicate’s vast shipping assets into a fully legitimate, global maritime logistics enterprise. I was no longer building an empire of fear; I was building a fortress of absolute security for my family.
I stood on the wide wooden veranda of the estate, a cup of warm coffee in my hand, watching the morning sun reflect off the blue water.
Down on the lawn, a scene was unfolding that made all the blood, all the scars, and all the dark years of my past completely vanish from my memory.
Posie, now wearing a beautiful pink sundress, was running through the tall green grass, her tiny legs moving with an incredible, healthy energy. She had gained a perfect amount of weight, her cheeks were a beautiful, rosy pink, and her laughter was the loudest, most joyous sound in the universe. Running right beside her was Mave, her dark-blonde hair caught in the sea breeze, her face completely stripped of the exhaustion and fear that had haunted her three months ago. She looked radiant, her eyes glowing with a peace she hadn't known in three long years.
"Look, Daddy! Look how fast I am!" Posie shouted, her high-pitched voice carrying across the lawn as she spotted me on the veranda.
Daddy. Every single time that word left her tiny mouth, it felt like a physical healing touch against my soul, repairing a piece of me I thought had died the day Mave walked away.
"You're faster than the wind, princess!" I called back, a genuine, deep smile spreading across my face.
Mave walked up the veranda steps a few moments later, leaving Posie happily chasing a golden butterfly near the flower gardens. She wore a soft white linen dress, her hand gently sliding into mine as she stood beside me. On her finger, the simple, elegant platinum band of her original wedding ring rested safely once again—the ring I had spent three weeks searching for until my men recovered it from the vault of our old Manhattan apartment.
"The legal team from New York just left the guest house, Garrett," Mave said softly, leaning her head against my shoulder, her scent of lavender and clean sea air washing over me. "Sarah said the final trust documentation is completely processed."
"Good," I said, pulling her closer against my side. "Effective today, Mave, you are the sole legal co-owner of every single legitimate asset bearing the Hail name. If anything ever happens to me, this world belongs entirely to you and Posie. Nobody can ever threaten your security again. Not the families, not the courts, and not my past."
May you like
Mave looked up at me, her pale hazel eyes swimming with deep, emotional tears—but for the first time, they were tears of profound happiness and total relief. "I didn't need the empire, Garrett. I never cared about the money or the houses. I just wanted my husband back. I just wanted our daughter to know the man who has her eyes."
I turned to her, my large hands gently framing her face, my thumb wiping away a single, stray tear of joy. "You have me, Mave. For the rest of my days, through every storm and every morning, you have me."
