Chapter 6 - Reclaiming the Sterling KingdomSix months later, the spring thaw over Boston was absolute and breathtaking.

The city’s historic brownstones were framed by blooming cherry blossoms and vibrant green lawns, casting a warm, welcoming glow across the Charles River.

I stood on the grand stone veranda of the Sterling Estate—our family's ancestral home in Beacon Hill—holding a cup of herbal tea and watching the morning light dance across the cobblestone courtyard.

The corporate storm in Chicago was now a distant memory, reduced to a textbook case study taught in business schools across the country. Carter Industries had been carved up and legally restructured under the direct management of Titan Logistics, with my personal holding syndicate retaining a sixty percent controlling stake. Ethan was currently serving a three-year sentence in a minimum-security federal correctional facility in Wisconsin for corporate wire fraud and tax evasion, passing his days folding laundry and wondering where his infallible genius had gone wrong.

My mother’s rosary rested safely in my pocket. My old Boston suitcase was stored away in the attic, a reminder of where I had come from and what I had survived.

A pair of warm, familiar arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind, and a soft kiss was pressed to the top of my head.

"You're out here early again," Julian Vance murmured, his deep, resonant voice carrying that comforting, steady warmth that had anchored me through the darkest weeks of the transition.

Julian—my father’s former chief legal strategist who had quietly helped me orchestrate the financial extraction behind the scenes—rested his chin on my shoulder, looking out toward the horizon with me.

"Just watching the city wake up," I smiled, leaning back against his chest. "It’s amazing how quiet the world gets once you clear out all the noise."

Julian chuckled softly, turning me around so I was facing him. His grey eyes, sharp yet deeply tender, searched my face. "The board meeting in New York is set for next Tuesday. Are you ready to officially take over as Chairperson of the Sterling Global Banking Syndicate?"

I looked up at him, feeling an incredible, surging sense of sovereign power that had nothing to do with money and everything to do with absolute self-ownership.

"I was born ready, Julian," I said, a radiant smile breaking across my face.

For years, I had believed that love meant shrinking yourself to fit into someone else's expectations, swallowing your brilliance, and waiting patiently for validation from a man who was incapable of giving it.

I had learned the hardest way possible that true strength isn't about how much betrayal you can absorb.

It’s about having the courage to walk away, pick up the sword, and reclaim your kingdom.
