Chapter 7 - THE KINGDOM OF EMMAOne year later.

The summer sea breeze blew gently across the grand green lawn of the Cardenas Greenwich Estate.

White marquees were set up across the grass, filled with soft classical music, laughter, and light. Over two hundred guests—city leaders, charity directors, corporate partners, and true lifelong friends—gathered to celebrate Emma’s First Birthday.

Emma was walking now, taking happy, clumsy little steps across the grass in her white lace dress, holding my fingers as she giggled at the colorful balloons floating around the garden.

Mrs. Higgins walked over, carrying a tray of fresh lemonade, her face radiant with joy.

“She has her grandfather’s laughter, Miss Clara,” Mrs. Higgins smiled, wiping a sweet tear from her cheek.

“She has his strength too, Sarah,” I smiled back, lifting Emma into my arms and kissing her rosy cheeks.

Robert Vance walked over, holding a small leather box tied with a gold ribbon.

“Happy Birthday, my little Chairwoman,” Robert chuckled softly, handing the box to Emma.

Emma pulled at the ribbon, opening the box to reveal a beautiful, custom-made gold key engraved with her initials: E.C.

“What is this, Uncle Robert?” I asked, smiling.

“The master key to the new Cardenas Legacy Trust,” Robert explained warmly, looking at me with immense pride. “Today, the trust officially reached two hundred million dollars in valuation. When she turns twenty-one, she won't just inherit a company, Clara. She will inherit an empire that was protected by the strongest mother I have ever known.”

I looked out across the sunlit lawn, watching the people who genuinely loved us, feeling the warmth of the summer sun against my skin.

I remembered the cold, dark night eighteen months ago—the bleeding, exhausted woman who had been thrown out into the rain with a five-day-old newborn in her arms.

That woman had thought her world was ending.

She hadn't realized she was just laying the foundation for an empire.

I held Emma high in my arms, looking toward the bright, endless blue sky.

“To the empire, Emma,” I whispered softly into her ear.

Emma giggled, wrapping her tiny arms around my neck, holding me tight as the whole world applauded under the golden sun.
